Is there a way to determine the build number without downloading the full VM
Image?

We are waiting for a build that has the cpu_caps feature. I believe they are in
builds >= snv_61 per

You can see what goes into a build in terms of flag days
or heads up messages by reviewing

http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/on/flag-days/

For the CPU Caps project, they issued a flag day message
on 9 March 2007 when they integrated into snv_61. This is
recorded towards the bottom of this page

This indicates that any build from 61 onwards has that
feature.
