I run Xen with SLES10 SP3 (Xen 3.1.x, Kernel 2.6.18) on the PowerEdge R610s with no problems at all. -Nick>>> On 2010/03/18 at 04:48, Michael Schmidt <michael.schmidt@xncore.com> wrote: > I run many Dell servers ( M610) with the same cipset with xen and a > 2.6.33 kernel without any issues. > > Best Regards > - Michael Schmidt > > Am 18.03.10 11:23, schrieb Tapas Mishra: >> Hi >> want to know will Xen work with Dell Power Edge R710 I want to use >> Dell what are the known issues if some one has done in past share it >> with me. >> >> Tapas >> >> _______________________________________________ >> Xen-users mailing list >> Xen-users@lists.xensource.com >> http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users >>-------- This e-mail may contain confidential and privileged material for the sole use of the intended recipient. My problem is I want to install Debian on Nehalem Processor I have a Dell Power Edge R710 machine to test Virtualization on it but I am not clear with which architecture should I download the DVD is it AMD64,or i386 since as far as I know this processor uses EMT64 instructions which are similar for AMD machine also it has Intel® Xeon® 5500 series processors I googled debian for xeon got a link http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/debian-26/ia64-or-amd64-xeon-352008/ but this has not helped much the intel link which it redirects to http://developer.intel.com/technology/64bitextensions/ does not exists. Had a look on the following link also which is relevant to my problem. So my problem is I need to install Debian on the above machine which architecture should I download the DVD for? Some one who has already installed please let me know which architecture have they used. -- Tapas _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Debian stable kernel (2.6.26) & hypervisor (3.2) Have in mind that the Debian installer does not have the firmware for the network card (in case you use an netinstall cd) and you have to plug a usb flash with it, when asked during the installation. ia64 needs an Itanium processor. You can install amd64 or x86 architectures. -- Costas Drogos _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
Use amd64. In Linux terms (and Xen, as well), amd64 is just a generic name for the 64-bit x86 platform. AMD was either the first with it out, or Linux was first tested on an AMD version of the platform, so the name amd64 kind of stuck. In general, Linux-based stuff labeled "amd64" works fine on Intel's 64-bit chips. -Nick>>> On 2010/03/19 at 00:53, Tapas Mishra <mightydreams@gmail.com>wrote:> My problem is I want to install Debian on Nehalem Processor I have a > Dell Power Edge R710 machine to test Virtualization on it but I amnot> clear with which architecture should I download the DVD is itAMD64,or> i386 since > as far as I know this processor uses EMT64 instructions which are > similar for AMD machine also it has Intel* Xeon* 5500 series > processors I googled debian for xeon got a link >http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/debian-26/ia64-or-amd64-xeon-352008/> > but this has not helped much the intel link which it redirects to > http://developer.intel.com/technology/64bitextensions/ > does not exists. > Had a look on the following link also which is relevant to myproblem.> So my problem is I need to install Debian on the above machine which > architecture should I download the DVD for? > Some one who has already installed please let me know which > architecture have they used. > > -- > Tapas-------- This e-mail may contain confidential and privileged material for the sole use of the intended recipient.
