[Xen-users] Best non-Xen environment to create a WinXP HVM to move to Xen hosting
I have a Xen box that currently runs Linux PV instances, and for various reasons I need to add a WinXP instance for my own use with a couple of large apps on it. The box is in a colo environment where it''s not very convenient to sit and do installs, so I''d like to prepare an instance at my office, using a non-Xen environment, get everything installed, then move the instance over to my Xen server on an external hard drive. I don''t have a Xen box at my office, so I''m wondering which environment is best for preparing and building a WinXP HVM image/instance? -- Chris ''Xenon'' Hanson, omo sanza lettere Xenon AlphaPixel.com PixelSense Landsat processing now available! http://www.alphapixel.com/demos/ "There is no Truth. You can use the Xen Live CD to create and install you Windows XP at your office, after that, just copy the files from your disc to the disc of your Xen server... :) http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/LiveCD At the Desktop of the Xen Live CD, there is a README file to help you with the creation of the Windows domU. Cheers! The usual methods for cloning windows installation can be applied. I prefer virtualbox though: - install XP on virtualbox with default settings (which should have APIC disabled) - install IDE drivers (just to be sure): http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Migrate_Windows - create suitable xen HVM config - convert vbox disk image to raw (using "VBoxManage clonehd") -- Fajar _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
