Hi. I have some new 64bit Windows 2008 R2 domU''s running on SLES11/xen_3.4.2. What is everyone using to get 1gb network performance on win2k8? I''ve used GPLPV on win2k3, but I see you have to sign the drivers yourself for 64bit. Maybe that process isn''t difficult, I only glance at the link from gplpv''s page. What is everyone using? GPLPV is about the only thing I know of for fully virtualized windows guests. Thanks, James _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

The network performance of GPLPV was worse than IOEMU regardless of numerous different adapter settings that I tried. I reverted back to using IOEMU and found satisfactory performance using the e1000 model driver instead of the default Realtek, ie. vif = [ ''type=ioemu, mac=00:16:3e:xx:xx:xx, bridge=xenbr0, model=e1000'' ] With the above I achieve a throughput of approx 30 MBytes per second, which is much less than what some people on this list reported using GPLPV, but still Gigabit speed and more than enough for our application. I also don''t have to worry about test signing and/or disabling driver signature enforcement at every reboot. So far the server has been a rock solid performer. When you tested this, did you disable transmission checksum offloading? This setting, which is enabled by default, has always caused me some problems and I almost always have to disable it. The symptoms could include bad network performance, as packets will be retransmited repeatedly due to the bad checksums generated by the checksum offloading. -Nick>>> On 2010/02/04 at 18:08, Matthias Reif <mattreif@spseed.com.au> wrote: > xen-users-bounces@lists.xensource.com wrote on 05/02/2010 09:15:58 AM: > >> Hi. An easy way to enable testsign is with dseo : http://www.ngohq.com/home.php?page=dseo> I think > I''ll first try Matthias'' suggestion using the e1000 model driver. You can easily get network speed over 100Mbps with GPLPV. IMHO it''s worth the effort. IIRC latest GPLPV (0.11.x) for x64 requires some hacking on registry (due to incorrect testsign detection), so if that doesn''t work you might want to try 0.10.x. -- Fajar _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

I think I''ll first try Matthias'' suggestion using the e1000 model driver. Thanks to all! You simply go to a command prompt as an Administrator, type "bcdedit /set testsigning on", and reboot. Then you can install the drivers, although the latest release (0.11.0.188) doesn't see the testsigning switch correctly, so you have to make a little registry tweak. -Nick -------- This e-mail may contain confidential and privileged material for the sole use of the intended recipient.
