Hey guys, I have been hunting around on google and on the mailing list archives looking for some documentation on how to build xen from scratch. I''m not talking about the make world that tries to do a download of linux for you, I''m talking about getting the patches together myself and really building from scratch. Anyone know of such a beast? -- Jason The place where you made your stand never mattered, only that you were there... and still on your feet _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

I''m coming from using User-mode linux for a couple of years and I had become pretty familiar with the whole process of patching the kernel for UML, building the guest and host kernels, SKAS issues, etc. What Im looking to do is build xen, download a vanilla kernel and patch it by hand for a DOM0 and DOMU kernel, build the tools by hand, etc. Mostly so I can become familiar with how xen really works (Im a linux-from-scratch guy, I like to do things the hard way). I''m starting to guess such a thing doesn''t exist, in which case no big deal I''ll just write one. But if a good starting point exists out there, I would love to use it. -- Jason The place where you made your stand never mattered, only that you were there... and still on your feet On Sat, 14 Jan 2006, Thomas Schwinge wrote:> On Fri, Jan 13, 2006 at 01:35:38PM -0600, jason wrote: >> Hey guys, I have been hunting around on google and on the mailing list >> archives looking for some documentation on how to build xen from scratch. >> I''m not talking about the make world that tries to do a download of linux >> for you, I''m talking about getting the patches together myself and really >> building from scratch. They''re basically shell scripts, one compiles only the hypervisor, the other installs only the patched kernel sources. You should be able to extract the neccessary steps from them. http://www.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/*checkout*/sys-kernel/xen-sources/xen-sources-2.6.12.6.ebuild http://www.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/*checkout*/app-emulation/xen/xen-3.0.0-r2.ebuild /Ernst _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Anyone know of such a beast?I''ve started to write a hint for the Linux From Scratch project (Do you know that? If not: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org - it''s a must!). It is (i''m sure) quite incomplete - it''s the first shoot. You may take a look to it at http://equinox.homelinux.org/ Tell me if you think it''s helpful or not - and especially, report bugs and end enhancements... cu Thomas ___________________________________________________________ Telefonate ohne weitere Kosten vom PC zum PC: http://messenger.yahoo.de _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
