Hi List, I was curious if anyone knows of a vendor selling VT-enabled Pentium CPU workstations. I have a pretty desperate need to run Windows and Linux simultaneously, and obviously would prefer not to run VMWare. According to Intel''s website, there are three chips currently available that support the VT instructions: Pentium 4 672, Pentium 4 662, and the Pentium Extreme Edition 955. Unfortunately, after much Googling my search is still fruitless. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it! I think they, technically, went on sale in December (or even late November), but only a few processors were actually shipped. -- Mats> > Mike > > _______________________________________________ > Xen-users mailing list > Xen-users@lists.xensource.com > http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users > >_______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

From what I''ve read, they should start appearing in mid to late January. Search for Pentium D 9xx. For example, Onsale.com has them available for preorder, but no word on when they''ll be in: http://www.onsale.com/onsale/search/search.asp?search=pentium+d&CurDSN=simpl e&calledfrom=1&incimage=on Steve Brueckner, ATC-NY _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Plus, I''m not sure if Xen''s Pacifica support is as good as it''s VT support at this point. I''m also not sure how different the AMD and Intel virtualization instruction sets are. As to how different they are, the main difference would be that Intel and AMD choose different op-codes, that, just to make life interesting, have slightly different functionality. But the general ideas of how things work is pretty much the same. Much of the SVM code is near enough identical, except for the fact that the VMCS/VMCB (Virtual machine Control Structure/Block) are different, and Intel has a specific instruction to write to the VMCS, we just use general memory accesses to get to the VMCB. The SVM spec is publicly available here: http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/white_papers_and_tech_docs/ 33047.pdf -- Mats _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Hi, I am currently using xen 2.0.7, with Debain Sarge as Dom0. And a domU session running debian with a gnome vnc session running. However, whenever I shutdown the domU it crashes the whole system. Nothing in the logs, nothing in on the local console. It just hangs. When the domU shuts down it fails umounting the tmpfs, but continues with the shutdown. Here is the "mount" details on the domU Filesystem 1M-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/sda1 10084 8418 1666 84% / tmpfs 109 1 109 1% /dev/shm tmpfs 10 3 8 22% /dev This is using a Dom0 kernel for the client, will this mean when it reboots it tries to access the hardware and reboot the system?
