Hi, I have a Fedora Core 4 (x86_64) installation running on an Athlon 64. Unfortunately there is no precompiled Xen for this system, and my attempt to compile Xen 2.7 from the sources was a miserable failure. Will there be RPMs for FC4-x86_64 systems? _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
Xen 2.x doesn''t work in 64-bit, so there''s no way that you could build a working Xen 2.x on a FC4 x86_64. [Pedantica note: Ok so, you could, in theory, build the source into a 32-bit image, but it wouldn''t be able to boot your Dom0 unless you alos have a separate 32-bit install somewhere on the machine, as some tools and utilities that are needed in the startup have to be installed as 32-bit images. For example, FC4 x86_64 would be deliverd with 64-bit version of Python, whilst you need a 32-bit Python in 32-bit.] For 64-bit Xen, you need the 3.0-testing or something like that. As I understand it, Xen is not currently distributed by XenSource as RPM''s, but various Linux distributors have "ready to use" packages to suit their particular distributions. As to RedHat doing this for FC4 is up to RedHat, I suspect. -- Mats> -----Original Message----- > From: xen-users-bounces@lists.xensource.com > [mailto:xen-users-bounces@lists.xensource.com] On Behalf Of > Harald Grossauer > Sent: 06 December 2005 11:42 > To: xen-users@lists.xensource.com > Subject: [Xen-users] Xen for FC4-x86_64 > > Hi, > > I have a Fedora Core 4 (x86_64) installation running on an Athlon 64. > Unfortunately there is no precompiled Xen for this system, > and my attempt to compile Xen 2.7 from the sources was a > miserable failure. > > Will there be RPMs for FC4-x86_64 systems? > > > _______________________________________________ > Xen-users mailing list > Xen-users@lists.xensource.com > http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users > >_______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Unfortunately I did not get it to run. _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

During the compilation there was a warning, I think about a pointer being converted to an integer of different size (probably a 64bit<->32bit problem). Since the Xen makefiles treat warnings like errors I also gave up on this problem. _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

You will need to use Xen 3.0 testing if you want x86-64 support. There are precompiled Xen x86-64 rpms for Fedora 5 development tree. You can find them http://mirrors.kernel.org/fedora/core/development/x86_64/Fedora/RPMS/ If you are not ready for too much pain you might just want to wait for Fedora 5 release in Febuary. Or at least, that''s how I''ve understood it. I''d say that 3.0-testing would be a much better bet than the bundled x86_64 snapshot from several months ago. -- Mats _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
