Greetings... I''m a bit earlier in the process than most of you, judging by the archives. Trying to set up xen as released by Fedora Core 4. I start with a minimal install and do: yum update (lots of packages) yum install xen (which installs five packeges) yum install kernel-xenU kernel-xen0 (which installs as requested) mv /lib/tls /lib/tls.disabled Then I reboot into the xen0 kernel. The system gets as far as Switching to new root unmounting old /proc unmounting old /sys and stops. The console still echoes, and the three-finger-salute still does an orderly shutdown, but the system never gets past the above. I''ve tried this on two systems: * Dell Precision 410 * Toshiba Tecra 8100 Same install, same yum update first, same xen packages, same result. Any suggestions? Thanks, </edg> _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

If you boot with "vdso=0" things should work. Roland gave me a workaround to apply kernel side, and I have RPMs with this on my page: http://people.redhat.com/riel/ -- All Rights Reversed _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

I downloaded the new kernel packages, uninstalled the old, installed the new, and rebooted. The system came all the way up. I had to create /var/run/xenstored and /var/lib/xenstored, rather than the /var/lib/xen/xenstored and /var/run/xen/xenstored versions that were referenced in the quickstart. Thanks to a posting on the list that I found in archives. I''ve created three partitions with the appropriate skeletons in them, and I plan to yum install them tomorrow when I have better bandwidth. I create those directories in the spec file, but forgot to include them in the %files section. Re: [Xen-users] FC4 Xen install won''t boot the xen kernel
Being of an inquisitive nature myself, I also tried these .rpms. They are causing an instant reboot on my system, a dual athlon MP1900, with an MSI board. As far as I can see, it happens soon just as xen is booting domain 0. I also does not work if I use the xen rpm of this directory with older domain kernels (I don''t know if this was supposed to work or not). I quickly ran back to -1450_FC4 (from some test directory I think, -1447_FC4 works fine also) and xen-2-20050823.i386.rpm (from updates). Just a data point, no complaints! I have been using source snaps on my smp athlon with fairly good results, any tests I have tried with the rpms . The biggest caveat for me would be I use no modules for boot with the snapshot, where as with rpm install initrd is loading my scsi, network drivers and ext3 driver. I usually can fiddle and get some DomU''s going but never have any networking working with rpm install. Also X related issues on Dom0 on almost every unstable I have tried. I have a Centos 4.1 with 2.0.7 and X running on Dom0 and so far it seems stable. Would be curious in the FC4 kernel monolithic plays nicer.
