[Xen-devel] Interest in running ReactOS and Windows under Xen
Hello, Is there any interest in running Windows under Xen? I know some work was done in the past to support it but due to license issues it had to be pulled. Might I suggest taking a look at adapting ReactOS to Xen and maybe developing a shared driver or HAL that can be used for both ReactOS and Windows. Last I heard, it was thought that it *might* be possible to get Windows to run under Xen on non-VT hardware but I don''t think anyone here has anywhere near the spare cycles required to investigate this/> I know some work was > done in the past to support it but due to license issues it had to be > pulled. As you say, a nice benefit is that code related to the ReactOS port (e.g. the virtual device drivers) could be reused for Windows. The problem with most of the ReactOS team is that most of the effort has been focused on Qemu. None of our developers are interested in porting ReactOS to use the Hypercall stuff. We are still working on just making ReactOS stable <g>. Thanks Steven __________________________________ Celebrate Yahoo!''s 10th Birthday! Yahoo! Perhaps when both projects have grown some more... I have been talking it over with some of the ReReactOSuys and there may be one of two that have interest. They are currently looking for a company that is interested in adapting Windows to XeXeno spsponsorhe effort.> Makes sense to use QEQEmusince you also (obviously) want to run on real > hardware ;-) It would be well cool to have ReReactOSunning on XeXenoo > someday. Perhaps when both projects have grown some more...It already works well in QEQEmund VMVMwareut we get a lot of requests from the Linux community for more of a direct port to Linux and XeXenight be the solution. Captive-NTNTFSort of did this by making a copy of ReReactOStntoskrnlun in ususerspaceand allowing it to load the Windows NTNTFSys. The idea is that if you could make ReReactOS run as a subsystem of Linux then you might get better cocompatiblityith Windows applications then just trying to run all of Wine in ususerspace.epespeciallyith all of the changes to the Windows design in the past few years.
