No one maintains an install for Wine for Mac OS X. I have thought about volunteering for doing this, but sadly I do not have access to a 10.4 machine to make builds on... I do currently make builds that run on 10.5 and 10.6 though. I would appreciate if anyone could help test out the build I have made though, and maybe with some help I could keep up a Mac version for everyone. See the following download link for a test install of Wine 1.1.31 for Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6. It is a normal Wine install to /usr/local, no GUIs or anything special (though OpenAL is disabled because I cannot get the compiler to make it without causing an error) Link to doh123's Unofficial Wine Installer (http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=4d2c584293b63ef4c79b87b207592a1cff0cc336a2b5e3fd935cbde7375ca78c) If anyone would like to give me input or help out, that would be great... I'd just like to see Mac OS X as an option in the normal downloads, so Mac users don't have to try to compile Wine themselves.

sorry ... didn't know it would/could be a problem... no idea how anyone could overwrite it, its not an open anyone install type file site, its under user name and password but shareable... I didn't have anywhere else to make this available. I'll put up sha-1 and md5 ... shasum... (default) comes up as 38d13c3989d885b3c9c4cfb0587163d62da36361 md5 comes up as 6cb3e1b78047093e8a2021ff754e7043 The file is a normal .pkg installer for Mac OS X made with "PackageMaker.app" which is part of Apple Xcode for making installers. Any Mac OS X machine can double click a .pkg and go through an install... this pkg just copies the needed files to the right locations, nothing super difficult. What type of independent packages would have to be installed? How exactly should the install process go? Should it be a command line install and not GUI? I'm rather new at programming/development of any type.. in the last few months, and love Wine... just seeing if there is a way I can help out. vitamin wrote:> > doh123 wrote: > > Link to doh123's Unofficial Wine Installer > > Make sure to post sha-1 sum of that file here. In order to provide further assistance, I need to know where you located the Wine installation package. Please provide this information. Thank you. James McKenzie
Thanks for answering. The installation package file is in the downloads folder, but I think the information you ask is where it installed wine. The message it gave at the end of installation is that it is in /usr/local In usr/local, I have 3 dirs: bin, lib, and share, which all contain Wine related files or dirs.

Again, I will EMPHASIZE that the Wine project does not provide MacOSX Wine packages. They are provided by a third party, of which there are several providers. The question I asked, which I will rephrase, is where did you download the MacOSX Wine package from? Thank you. James McKenzie
Well, I simply got it by clicking the link of doh123's first post in this thread... don't know if this will help, but I hope so!
macsnowleousr wrote:> Well, I simply got it by clicking the link of doh123's first post in this thread... > > don't know if this will help, but I hope so!sorry for not answering earlier... it puts all the standard Wine files into /usr/local just like a normal build from source install of Wine.... your ~/.wine is just the wineprefix it makes. under default Finder options, you wont be able to see /usr in finder, best to use command line.... if you are gong to install Wine from the source code building yourself, it will over-write this stuff... below I'll put all the files that are installed... they should all be safe to remove. in /usr/local/bin: Wine License, msiexec, notepad, regedit, regsvr32, widl, wine, wineboot, winebuild, winecfg, wineconsole, winecpp, winedbg, winedump, winefile, wineg++, winegcc, winemaker, winemine, winepath, wineprefixcreate, wineserver, wmc, wrc in /usr/local/lib: libwine.1.0.dylib, libwine.1.dylib, libwine.dylib and the whole 'usr/local/lib/wine' folder /usr/local/share: applications, wine both folders should be safe to remove

Make sure your on 10.5.8 or any 10.6 version. but your main problem is the last line.. it says it is trying to load in vcsteup.exe from the system32 folder, which I'm guessing means your not giving the right path to the exe file.

I'm using macosx 10.6 (snow leopard), but I installed thanx to another post... but for James.. YES I REALLY need to install VC++... How do I use winetricks to do this?? Please... I really appreciate your help. Thanx a million!
sorry, overread the subject, so figured out late that you?re using Mac OS... There should be some wget for that anway...
Leoengr205 wrote:> So I went to the link and it gave me 2 options for getting winetricks > ... [snip]you didn't follow the directions close enough. you don't have to download command line, but if you do, use 'curl' not 'wget' all you have to do is go and right lcick the link on the wiki (http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks) and select "Download Linked File as..." then select where you want it.. it auto saves it for me as "winetricks.sh" which you can run with the sh command easily.. but probably not the best way to. what I'd suggest is renaming the download (whatever its named, who cares, its standard text) to just "winetricks" then change it to be an executable file by going to the folder its in and typing... Code: chmod 755 winetricks at that point I just move the winetrick script into my Wine folder in /usr/local ... or whever yours is, so its in the path somewhere, so no matter where you are on command line if you type winetricks, it can find it... then in the future you can do simple stuff like Code: winetricks --help winetricks vcrun2008 ... or whatever and use it.... the menu that pops up if you don;t tell it what package to install is HORRID, so... type winetricks --help to see whats available
