I start up a game- any game, and instead of launching, it seems to start to launch and then fails, and all i see is my desktop in a lower resolution. Is this a bug, or is this human error on my part?

When I start an application, it actually starts and changes my resolution to temporarily match the game's, then it exits on its own, leaving the resolution the same in the process.... > > > > > > > How are you starting the game? I start from going into the dvd and executing the program's exe file.
