(You should only need root for installing Wine itself not for installing any applications on it) Wine will install applications to the hidden ".wine" directory under your home directory. http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ has some general info, you probably want to read this: http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#head-312130506d4585c973df1d88538b11945193c41d Another quick introduction: http://wiki.winehq.org/HowTo

(please :3)
chs1010 wrote:> also, when i finally get it on and install a game, would i have to install direct x as well? >No, Wine supplies its own DirectX support. You should NOT install the complete DirectX package as it will mung up your Wine user file install. BTW, you claim to be a College student, but just to point this out, you really have a problem reading what we are trying to tell you. There is a great deal of knowledge on both the Aspire web site as well as the Wine web site. Google and site search engines are way your friend. Please use them. James McKenzie
well, i thought it best to ask you guys because the things you usually find in google are hard to understand and if someone whos done this can explain it, it will be a lot easier to understand and no i dont find this easy, mainly because im new to linux and i bet you had some difficulty understanding it unless you started on a linux system, i however came over from windows
ok, i used the yum thing to install it, i did that before but uninstalled it because i thought there might be a more up to date version, at least this way theres no hassle lol
its ok, thanks for all the help youre giving me anyway also, can i still make an account for the apps DB on version 0.9.47? ive figured, if a game doesnt work i can at least try to fix it in some way if thats only reporting bugs lol
ok than, how do i update my version? is it as simple as the yum way because if not i might need a little help lol
i now have wine version 1.1.9, the aspire one forum directed me to this rpm thing and i downloaded it and it works now apprently lol, thanks for all the help you guys have given me :D
