Hey guys, I am trying to get Sins of a Solar Empire to work with wine 1.0 rc5. When I attempt to install the game the following things occur. mike at icarus:~$ wine /media/cdrom0/setup.exe fixme:win:LockWindowUpdate ((nil)), partial stub! fixme:win:LockWindowUpdate ((nil)), partial stub! fixme:win:LockWindowUpdate ((nil)), partial stub! fixme:richedit:RichEditWndProc_common WM_STYLECHANGING: stub fixme:richedit:RichEditWndProc_common WM_STYLECHANGED: stub fixme:win:LockWindowUpdate ((nil)), partial stub! fixme:win:LockWindowUpdate ((nil)), partial stub! fixme:win:LockWindowUpdate ((nil)), partial stub! fixme:win:LockWindowUpdate ((nil)), partial stub! fixme:win:LockWindowUpdate ((nil)), partial stub! fixme:advapi:LookupAccountNameW (null) L"mike" (nil) 0x7dd36070 (nil) 0x7dd36074 0x7dd36068 - stub fixme:advapi:LookupAccountNameW (null) L"mike" 0x12101a8 0x7dd36070 0x163cd8 0x7dd36074 0x7dd36068 - stub fixme:msi:ACTION_HandleStandardAction unhandled standard action L"SetODBCFolders" fixme:msi:msi_unimplemented_action_stub MigrateFeatureStates -> 2 ignored L"Upgrade" table values fixme:msi:msi_unimplemented_action_stub RemoveShortcuts -> 3 ignored L"Shortcut" table values fixme:msi:msi_unimplemented_action_stub RemoveFolders -> 3899 ignored L"CreateFolder" table values fixme:shell:DllCanUnloadNow stub fixme:msi:msi_unimplemented_action_stub RemoveExistingProducts -> 2 ignored L"Upgrade" table values err:menubuilder:InvokeShellLinker failed wait for semaphore err:menubuilder:WaitForParentProcess Unable to wait for parent process, error 0 fixme:win:LockWindowUpdate ((nil)), partial stub! fixme:win:LockWindowUpdate ((nil)), partial stub! err:menubuilder:InvokeShellLinker failed wait for semaphore err:menubuilder:InvokeShellLinker failed to fork and exec wineshelllink fixme:shell:DllCanUnloadNow stub fixme:shell:DllCanUnloadNow stub fixme:shell:DllCanUnloadNow stub mike at icarus:~$ The install speeds through and says it is finished but it isn't. maybe rights issue or simply the disk is full? :P

Here is their address: http://www.ironcladgames.com/contact.html While wine may help, it would be better to encourage the developers to write software that runs natively under Linux. Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?
Looks like they consider Linux and Wine a "waste of their time"> > As suggested by TFL BigBANGtheory here is a basic guide to installing Sins of a Solar Empire on Linux using Wine. Please note that Linux is not officially supported by Stardock or Ironclad. Also, please do not send in any minidumps that are generated while running Sins on Linux. The problem may be Linux/Wine related and not a problem with Sins itself so we don't need the nice devs wasting their time looking at them - they have enough work already.http://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/171844
I think it's a regression, someone reported on irc a few days ago that it did not install properly, but there appears to be evidence of the install working some months ago since there have been bug reports for the installed application. I suggested they file a bug report, but it looks like they didn't bother. Use these instructions to perform a regression test http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11640 suggests that it installed ok in 0.9.55 so, run a regression test between 0.9.55 and 1.0 to track down the commit that caused the bug then please file a new bug report at http://bugs.winehq.org with the results of the test
