Hi! I've just installed FS2004. I am using version 0.9.54, as recommended in the AppDB. My Linux OS Is Debian Etch(4.0) With a fully capable processor(Games of such category run perfectly on Windows). Followed the instructions: Installed via the "WINXP" Mode, then switched to Windows 98. Here's the problem: The Splash screen is showing, then it disappears and these are the errors I receive: " Code: err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {529a9e6b-6587-4f23-ab9e-9c7d683e3c50} not registered err:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {529a9e6b-6587-4f23-ab9e-9c7d683e3c50} could be created for context 0x1 fixme:imm:ImmGetDefaultIMEWnd ((nil) - (nil) 0x1186d0 ): semi-stub err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {ebb08c45-6c4a-4fdc-ae53-4eb8c4c7db8e} not registered err:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {ebb08c45-6c4a-4fdc-ae53-4eb8c4c7db8e} could be created for context 0x1 fixme:imm:ImmReleaseContext (0x10030, 0x1186d0): stub err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {fc47060e-6153-4b34-b975-8e4121eb7f3c} not registered err:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {fc47060e-6153-4b34-b975-8e4121eb7f3c} could be created for context 0x1 " I believe I've listed everything as lucidly as possible. Thank you for your attention and aid, Thanks, Daniel

I'm going to go through them anyway just in case:> err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {529a9e6b-6587-4f23-ab9e-9c7d683e3c50} not registered > err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {ebb08c45-6c4a-4fdc-ae53-4eb8c4c7db8e} not registeredThat's msctf.dll, part of Microsoft "Text Services Framework". You could try putting a copy into windows/system32 and registering it with regsvr32 msctf. Supposedly it's redistributable, http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms629032(VS.85).aspx, but I've never tried using it.> fixme:imm:ImmGetDefaultIMEWnd ((nil) - (nil) 0x1186d0 ): semi-stub > fixme:imm:ImmReleaseContext (0x10030, 0x1186d0): stubThose are probably ok.> err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {fc47060e-6153-4b34-b975-8e4121eb7f3c} not registeredThat's DirectPlay 8. Sorry I couldn't be any actual help...
Hey, First let me start by thanking you for the quick reply. I was at last able to launch, the problem now is, that it crashes, when ever I attempt to commence a flight. Where to further? Thanks, Thank you, Daniel

Starting over with an empty .wine ?> the problem now is, that it crashes, when ever I attempt to commence a flight. You probably need to wait until a wine developer has time to devote to this game. Until then, it might be useful to discuss the game in the appdb, http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=2819
Hey, Thanks again for your swift retort. I stumbled onto an installation guide of DirectX on Wine. After executing it, everything fell into place, well except for the "gameplay" per se. I've tried waiting, but it seems to me it's just frozen there. Should I check whether or not I have "wine-devel" installed?(if that's the packaged you mentioned in your post?) Thanks again, Daniel
Hey, I've just finished editing my post. Try 'checking it out' again, It encloses an error message, and I had been able to get key features to work. Thanks, Daniel
In any case, here it is, again: " Hey, Thanks again for your swift retort. I stumbled onto an installation guide of DirectX on Wine. After executing it, everything fell into place, well except for the "gameplay" per se. Well, I saw that "Ubuntu" was already rated "Bronze"(I believe). And the differences between "Ubuntu" and "Debian", are, in fact meek. So, I really don't see where the problem might be. Thanks again, Thank you, Daniel P.S I was able to start the flying process(Meaning the "Loading scenery" and what not), but afterwards, I get a black screen with these impediments: " Code: wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0xfffffff9 at address 0x7bc41a9d (thread 0009), starting debugger... err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x110048 "heap.c: main process heap section" wait timed out in thread 0017, blocked by 0009, retrying (60 sec) err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x110048 "heap.c: main process heap section" wait timed out in thread 0020, blocked by 0009, retrying (60 sec) err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x110048 "heap.c: main process heap section" wait timed out in thread 0018, blocked by 0009, retrying (60 sec) err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7ee44360 "user_main.c: USER_SysLevel" wait timed out in thread 0017, blocked by 0009, retrying (60 sec) err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7ee44360 "user_main.c: USER_SysLevel" wait timed out in thread 0017, blocked by 0009, retrying (60 sec) " "
What else can be done? Thanks again, Thank you, Daniel

Gerry Visel wrote:> gerry at wind:~$ wine -swrend "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight > Simulator\FltSim98.exe"Riiiiiiiight and what you've been asked to? 'wine' does not have any options except --version and --help. In case you still missing it - this is option for your game, not Wine. Also you should always change current work directory to where the program is installed.
Update, I finally got FS2004 to run with hardware acceleration. [Image: http://groups.ncf.edu/~roates/fs9pic.png ] I've tried it with the following configurations, and I had consistent results: 3.2GHz P4 HT 32Bit Ubuntu - Nvidia 7900GS (100.14.19) Drivers 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo 32Bit Ubuntu Nvidia 9600 GT (171.06) Drivers step 0 - start with a clean .wine/ directory step 1 - configure wine set the compatibility mode to windows xp step 2 - install fs9 step 4 - repalce the FS9.exe with a patched fs2004_fs9.1_NoCD.exe step 3 - run the fs9.1 update step 4 - configure wine to run in windows 98 mode (This only has to be done on the first run) step 5 - run fs9 If you get a black screen when the game starts, disable Hardware Transformation & Lighting from the Display Configuration Screen. (I had to do this for my 9600GT as the 171.06 drivers are still beta). I still need to test this on Ubuntu 64bit, but it should work. [img][/img]
