i've seen various references to this message in the list archive, but none which really match my scenario. i'm running 0.9.28 on ubuntu edgy. of course, i'm new at wine -- so this could be user error. i'm trying to install TaxCut 2006, from the CDROM: $ ls .wine/dosdevices/d\:/ autorun.inf* df0000exe.manifest* taxcut.exe* temporaryitems/ data/ dpro2006.exe* taxcutapp/ df0000.exe* taxcut/ taxcutexe.manifest* $ $ WINEDEBUG=warn+all wine .wine/dosdevices/d\:/taxcut.exe warn:module:load_builtin_dll cannot open .so lib for builtin L"taxcut.exe": /usr/lib/wine/taxcut.exe.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory warn:module:load_dll Failed to load module L"Z:\\home\\pgf\\.wine\\dosdevices\\d:\\taxcut.exe"; status=c0000135 wine: could not load L"Z:\\home\\pgf\\.wine\\dosdevices\\d:\\taxcut.exe": Module not found trying with a more direct path the the executable gives a variation on the same theme: $ ls /mnt autorun.inf* df0000exe.manifest* taxcut.exe* temporaryitems/ data/ dpro2006.exe* taxcutapp/ df0000.exe* taxcut/ taxcutexe.manifest* $ $ WINEDEBUG=warn+all wine /mnt/taxcut.exe warn:module:load_builtin_dll cannot open .so lib for builtin L"taxcut.exe": /usr/lib/wine/taxcut.exe.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory warn:module:load_dll Failed to load module L"D:\\taxcut.exe"; status=c0000135 wine: could not load L"D:\\taxcut.exe": Module not found i can run other programs, which come with wine, successfully, e.g. winhlp.exe, and cmd.exe. any tips, or debug, strace, etc suggestions, would be most welcome. as i say, i'm new to wine. is this a case where i need to be using "real" microsoft libraries? if so, is there a wiki or doc page that describes which libraries to copy, and their source (on windows) and destination (under wine) locations? paul =--------------------- paul fox, pgf@foxharp.boston.ma.us (arlington, ma, where it's 34.3 degrees)

Run winecfg and see if you have it. Z: drive should point to "/" - this is default after clean Wine installation. Also you can try to run programs like that: wine "D:\program.exe" Just place program.exe to ~/.wine/drive_c/ directory and try. Everything should work: running from Windows path (last example) and Unix path (make sure that you have Z: drive and if not repeir it as described above).

Are you sure that taxcut.exe is what you are supposed to execute? What does autorun.ini say?

Used it last year. Printing, e-filing, everything worked fine. "Standard" edition is free, "deluxe" edition is $12.95. Been using this software for years on windows, got it to run last year with a couple of native dll's. With the improvements to WINE, it installed and ran right "out-of-the-box" this year. -- Tom Lowe

The error message you are seeing is because Wine cannot find the program you are trying to run. Regards, Alexander N.
