wine users - Oct 2004 - Can't install Office 97

I've tried to install office 97 on Gentoo using the latest Gentoo wine 
version (wine-20040716).  Everything goes fine until after I choose the 
installation directory, after a few seconds I get

Office 97 Setup was not completed successfully

I can't find any logs anywhere to debug the problem.

Any clues?

Have you tried to use it?

That error message you should take as a matter of course.

It should work fine.

I doubt it's anything more than a hackaround, but you could run wine 
regedit and attempt to edit the Wine registry as required. Or, 
naturally, open the *.reg files in a text editor and edit them manually.

Hopefully someone else knows a better way.
