If you look at the ebuild for wine, the nptl USE flag is going to /dev/null,
because it's never used.
If you look at the entry of 2003-11-12 in Wine's ChangeLog, you'll see
this:
* configure, configure.ac, loader/.cvsignore, loader/Makefile.in,
loader/glibc.c, tools/wineinstall:
Added a wine-glibc binary that detects the glibc threading in use
and
execs the corresponding wine binary.
Removed the --with-nptl configure option.
probably Gentoo's wine maintainer wasn't following too well the
ChangeLog.
Also, the current Wine version in gentoo is of july, also if we have a
september release (for which I wrote an unofficial ebuild on my site, if
you want to take a look at it, it has no more the nptl USE flag).
