wine users - Jul 2001 - What windows?

What's the latest on which version of windows to use on the windows
partition?  I had WinMe installed, then clean installed Win98 because the
version of wine I was using seemed to run windows programs a little better
using the Win98 style registries.  the wine version seemed not to run hardly
anything when it was using the WinMe registers.  Assuming I use the latest
wine available, is it still better to have Win98 on the windows partition?
That is, if you use a windows partition.
