I've been encoding my CD collection with mostely great results. However, there is the oddball that doesn't sound as it should (mostely I get flanging effects on high-frequency sounds like cymbals). I've seen people upload samples and post it here so that the developers might have a look at them. Now I don't have any online space. Is there an ftp site or something I can upload samples to? Or is this even wanted? Also, what about copyright issues? Anything I have to watch out for there? mlf -- Michael Flegel, Am Ehrenmal 2, 21516 Schulendorf, Germany | +49 4155 82200 -or- +49 178 4583656 (mobile) | cand.math & cand.phys @ University of Hamburg |_.m.182cm.drkblnd.grneyes.1975/12/19.nl0ve%Romeo._<EOS> _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? If you just need a place to put a problem sample temporarily, I'm willing to hold them on my box's webserver. It's on nearly all the time and has quite a bit of bandwidth. If people need to do this, stop by #vorbis on irc.openprojects.net and look for me (volsung). You can /dcc the sample to me there. In the long run, it would be neat if we had a bugzilla-like system for tracking samples. But someone would have to write it. Volunteers?> Also, what about copyright issues? Anything I have to watch out for there?I have no idea about this. So far, people have just been sending short samples to Monty mostly. He's not putting them on Napster, so I don't think anyone has worried about the legal issues. :) --- Stan Seibert --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'vorbis-request@xiph.org' containing only the word 'unsubscribe' in the body. Here is ( an fair use :-) ) excerpt from http://www.loc.gov/copyright/fls/fl102.pdf : Section 107 contains a list of the various purposes for which the reproduction of a particular work may be considered “fair,” such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Section 107 also sets out four factors to be considered in determining whether or not a particular use is fair: (1) the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes; (2) the nature of the copyrighted work; (3) the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and (4) the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work. -- end excerpt -- So using that song ( in part or whole ) for vorbis research and development is pretty fair, if you ask me, especially if only monty gets a copy.
