Sorry if this has been on discussion before, but is anybody working on enabling Vorbis so that it can be used in Windows Media player and friends? I am currently working Vorbis into a proprietary windows application, but my company has no plans of making it compatible with Window Media Player or its friends. Regardless, I would like to be apart of any discussion regarding this topic. >> Sorry if this has been on discussion before, but is anybody working on >> enabling Vorbis so that it can be used in Windows Media player and friends?I was previously working on what you're talking about. Let's just say that it's not a very simple project, and I've given up on it temporarily. One thing that makes it hard is the fact that the win32 Audio Compression Manager (ACM) was not designed with variable bit rates in mind. It also wasn't designed to handle headers "in-stream" like the ogg spec. Oh well. You can have a look at http://sourceforge.net/projects/vorbisACM where someone is working on something similar. I can't make any comments on it, however: I avoided looking at it for fear of tainting my possibly proprietary implementation with their GPLd stuff. There is another way to make it work with WMP, which has something to do with ActiveMovie activex crap. Take a look at the file l3codecx.ax in your System folder... its the mp3 decoder that (I think) WMP uses. That's a whole 'nother story. --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'vorbis-dev-request@xiph.org' containing only the word 'unsubscribe' in the body.
