I haven't been able to find anything about a port of the ogg/theora decoder to the iPhone. I'm somewhat amazed it hasn't been done, really, given the campaign against the iPhone in part for "not supporting open source codecs". So, is there an unspoken ban on this, am I searching in the wrong places or am I just the only one who'd really really like to be able to stream video to the iPhone using an open source codec? Thanks, Steve -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Maybe you are the first to want to *and* complain. :) Of course there's no "unspoken ban", support is always good. -r
From what I know no "port" in the usual sense has to be done, if the iPhone SDK includes a C compiler (and I would think it does) the decoder should just plain work (although performance should benefit from using some iPhone DSP). However, the closed nature of how software is distributed on the iPhone (App Store), the environment in which software has to be written (I think the SDK is only available for XCode, by I may be wrong) and the fees that have to be paid make the iPhone rather unattractive for open source developers.
