I think I was seeing something similar with one of my PCs. I think it
appeared with a kernel update and then went away with a later kernel
update. I don't think it is the bootloader. I think there is some kernel
driver that is leaving something in a bad state that the BIOS cannot clear
(but a cold start will clear the registers).
Just a theory.
