Getting Samba3.0.9 to work on Debian(woody) for AD Authentication
Hi, I am using samba 3.0.9 on Debian (woody) IA 64 bit server. I have made a post on linuxquestions.org which contains my compilation and its arguments, krb5.conf, smb.conf, also my kinit and wbinfo -u, g, t, all of which work. I also have the official samba guide and samba by example. I do not have telnet installed and have tried to configure my SSH PAM options. I was wondering if anyone

how many people still use NIS?
Hello listmates, I have discovered a very strange SFTP problem which I can not connect to anything but NIS thus far. See here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-server-73/sftp-seems-to-fail-for-nis-accounts-under-openssh-5-x-816020/ http://readlist.com/lists/suse.com/suse-linux-e/38/193419.html Hence the question: is NIS (YP) still in use much anywhere for authentication? Thanks.

smb_add_request: request timed out!
Hey Samba team. I'm wondering if someone can review this thread posted at LinuxQuestions.org and maybe shed some light on the issue or help us understand if this is a bug or not. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?t=280936 I ran a site & bug search on "smb_add_request: request timed out!" and it didn't return anything. Please let me know if I should

Hello, everybody! I have two networks (192.168.1.0 and 192.168.2.0) connected across a wireless router with two NICs. I can ping everything allright via ip address, but not by name across subnets. Things on the same subnet ping allright by name. Here are the smb.conf files for my two master browsers: #(192.168.1.249) [global] workgroup = THEBAND netbios name = Yesteryear

A probable useful feature
Hi, As I mentioned in the following post : http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-security-4/exclude-a-from-being-logged-in-var-log-wtmp-920865/ Some monitoring softwares like Manage Engine Application Manager use a monitoring user which logins to a servers every 5 minutes via SSH so sometimes we need to be able to exclude this user from being recorded to wtmp, utmp files. Is it possible

Networking problems - Fedora 3/samba/Win XP
After pulling out most of my hair, someone told me of this mailing list. He suggested you may be able to help. Rather than describing my problem again (it goes on for a while, sorry). Could one of you brain surgeons look at the following link and try and shed some light. Thanks in advance:

OSX 10.9.2, samba 4.1.6-Ubuntu vs Microsoft Office 2011 and Read-Only files
Upgraded from samba 3.6.20 on gentoo to samba 4.1.6 on Ubuntu Trusty. Since the upgrade all attempts to open Microsoft Office files results in the file being opened Read-Only. Found multiple posts from multiple sites dealing with similar problems.

Hacking source: un-forward local port?
Hello! I was looking around for a solution which would allow me to un-forward already locally forwarded port but had no luck. So I decided to try and add it myself. I am not a good C coder, in fact, I've never really coded under unix before(it's just half a year since I fully moved from windowz). Here is what I made by now:

Request for help with dovecot.conf file: configured to work with MySQL and Postfix.
Greetings, I have CentOS 6.2 running on our server with a VPS provider (Linode.com). I need to configure Postfix, dovecot, MySQL to work for virtual domains (multiple domains on our server). Revisiting slow explorer.exe connections
Hi: I recently encountered a problem reading directories via an XP Pro client shared from a samba server (redhat's rpm samba-2.2.7-5.8.0). File listing was sometimes VERRRY slow. It was not a DNS issue in this case. The symptoms, and my fix is below, but I wanted to ask, is there a way to deal with this from the server? (I dunno- like redirecting port 80 or something). >From the client,

No RTFM?
What do you think about adding a "No RTFM" policy to the R mailing lists? Per, "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RTFM": The Ubuntu Forums and LinuxQuestions.org, for instance, have instituted "no RTFM" policies to promote a welcoming atmosphere.[8][9]. RTFM [and] "Go look on google" are two inappropriate responses to a question. If you don't know the

NetBIOS name resolution from Linux
Hi all, I set up a Samba server (version 3.0.24) names "Lamp" on a Debian Etch distribution. It provides a "guest" (guest ok = yes, guest only = yes, security = SHARE) access to a "share" directory, which works fine. Indeed, I can access \\lamp\share from a Windows machine (named "Ginger") without issuing a password. I can also ping the Linux machine
