Debian Bug Tracking System writes: > Bug#160609: marked as done (ITP: speex -- Free Speech Coding) The Debian project ( http://www.debian.org/ ) now provides speex packages. Users tracking the unstable development distribution (sid) can now 'apt-get install speex' to fetch and provide the speexenc and speexdec applications. Hopefully in about 10 days the speex packages will transition to the testing distribution (sarge). This will help Debian developers incorporate speex into packages for xmms plugins, icecast, openh323 and gnomemeeting as new versions become available. While this is good news for Debian users, it also has some things which should interest speex developers. The speex source code will be compiled on the 11 architectures supported by Debian (alpha, arm, hppa, i386, ia64, m68k, mips, mipsel, powerpc, s390, sparc). The compilation logs are available on the web: http://buildd.debian.org/build.php?pkg=speex If the code gets through all that, then it is likely portable. Things like endian issues, 32/64 bit processors, and various int/pointer conventions not accounted for by the programmer tend to show up. As I write this, speex has been successfully built on 9 architectures :) Debian also has a bug tracking system (BTS), for speex: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?src=speex&repeatmerged=yes There is also a status page: http://packages.qa.debian.org/s/speex.html (If this does not work yet, try later.) Note that the Debian Package Tracking System (PTS) also has an email subscription available from that overview page. Information on the PTS is at http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/developers-reference/ch-resources.en.html#s-pkg-tracking-system Happy speex-ing!
