centos 5.3 install ncview X libraries error and netcdf header error
I was trying to install software named ncview on a centos 5.3 box.
./configure command gave this error:
Error, the X libraries and development headers must be installed for ncview
to work!
I was surprised that there were many google hits related to ubuntu, none for
centos. So even though I eventually figured out what to do, I decided to
share this with the list anyhow, so maybe next time I

Receive "unable to load shared object RNetCDF.o" during R INSTALL of RNetCDF
On a Red Hat Linux cluster I am seeing the following after multiple
other packages were successfully installed. The error seems to suggest
that RNetCDF.o was not copied to the appropriate lib folder. The admin
user performing the install has the required privileges to perform the
install. Words of wisdom are greatly appreciated:

Packages
I am in need of the udunits and udunits-devel packages. I know I
remember seeing the udunits package on the CD's but don't recall seeing
the udunits-devel. Looking at the rpm-pbone.net, I only found versions
avilable for FC. Would it break a bunch of stuff to install both
packages on a 4.1-i386 system ? Also looked via yum, at Dag's
repository, and mirrors, but nothing shows

Request: make `var` a generic
Hi all,
I am running into problems using `summary.lm` as calling `var` on a `units`
object does not retain the `units` attribute.
The units package addresses this issue for `mean` by implementing
`mean.units`:
units:::mean.units
function (x, ...)
{
.as.units(NextMethod(), units(x))
}
This is, however, not possible for `var` (as it's not a generic), which
breaks `summary.lm`:

R on Windows Hangs on Packages Built from Sources
Hi,
I am currently having the following problem with R 1.9.0. Any package that
contains C or Fortran code hangs after I have built it and load it into R.
I've tried this with RMySQL and udunits, originally I thought I had done
something subtly wrong in configuring these packages; but I just had the
same problem with a simple example R package that I wrote. I was able to
build and load the

NOOBE help
I know, I should not have to ask this question, but it appears that ALL
my previous yum.repos.d entries have been trashed, with the only ones
left is base, CentOS Media then the mirrors.rpmforge.reo,
rhel-mondo.repo, rpmforge.repo, and webmin.repo.
I've been bitten by the mixing of repositories before and want to avoid
that scenario. Something is amok in the existing, and it throws all

problem loading ncdf library on MAC
Hi there,
I'm more or less new to R and have just installed R on my MAC laptop. I
managed to install everything easily enough (R version 2.9) and a few
packages, but when I try to load the ncdf package (in R) I get the
following error:
library(ncdf)
Error in dyn.load(file, DLLpath = DLLpath, ...) :

How to pass
HI!
Have somebody an expample how the syntax is for passing the path of
include files to:
"If a package needs to specify additional directories for search-
ing header les (`-I' options) or additional libraries for linking (`-l'
and `-L' options), it
should do this by setting the variables PKG_CPPFLAGS and PKG_LIBS in
`src/Makevars'." But no examples. :-(

RMySQL install
I am having trouble installing RMySQL on a clean install of Fedora Core 4 64
bit on a dual dual core machine (that is, two dual core processors). Seems
like the LD_LIBRARY_PATH is incorrect, but I don't seem to have it quite
right yet.
There are a few mentions of this problem in google, but thus far none of the
"fixes" and fixed my problem. I've tried defining the
