Aquamacs/emacs and color of echo in R console
Hi
I have been unable to find information on the following problem:
All the text in my *R* window is shown in light red, starting after the
echo "This is mgcv 1.5-6 . For overview type ", the following
`help("mgcv-package")' is already in the light red.
This color annoys me because I need more contrast, and it is even worse
for use with a beamer.

ext3 waking hard disk
hi :)
when using ext3, i can't get my hard disks to go to standby mode
any more. i am using timeouts set by hdparm with 2.4.18 kernels.
even when i issue a standby command manually, the disk
spins up again after a few seconds.
however, (to my knowledge) no user space program accessed
this disk at that time.
i suspect ext3's journal to be causing the disk accesses.
is that possible?

overriding shutdown for LXC
Moin Im using lxc at libvirt for LXC-applicationcontainer.
Works quite nice for now, beside shutting down the container,
which is not implemented. Hooks don't help here, as far as I found out.
Is there a way to override/define the shutdown function?

start.help() and browser
Hi, when calling help.start() I get the message
"> sh: firefox: command not found"
and the help system is inaccessible (which is an absolute nuisance, but
bypassable under http://stat.ethz.ch/R-manual/R-patched/library/)
I have no idea what is broken in my system and I didn'n find any pointer
in the archives(my search skills may be deficient..)

Dear all,
I resend this mail because it was blocked: I submitted a bug from the r-bug

than that usually associated with the email. Looks like it is currently
impossible to correctly submit bugs from the website. However, here is the

Error message in lmer
Dear list
I try to run a bootstrap with lmer.
I often, but not always, get the error message:
Error in objective(.par, ...) :
Leading minor of order 6 in downdated X'X is not positive definite
(with the number (here 6) varying)
In R-archives I came across some threads that treated this problem,
nevertheless they refer to lmer when using it with family = "binomial", so

icecast and RTMP
Dear Icecast developers,
we (freiheit.com and radio.de) are using Icecast as a streaming server.
Our targeted client is based on Adobe flash.
We investigate the options to implement RTMP streaming
(an Adobe streaming format: http://osflash.org/documentation/amf)
as an alternative streaming format for the Icecast server
to improve the quality of audio streaming in flash clients.

wrong time in guest logs
Hi,
i have several vm's running on KVM hosts. Recently i found out that the time in the log-files of the guests (/var/log/libvirt/qemu/xxx.log) is wrong. The time on the guest itself is right, just the time in the log-files is one hour back. Windows and linux vm's are affected. Also on another host the same. Changing the clock offset does not have any influence, still the wrong time in

libvirt and lxc and puppet
Hoi,
Im running some hosts with a lot of lxc-containers (lxc-execute).
Now Im going to have a look into libvirt. So I wonder:
Are there some docs about what lxc at libvirt is supporting?
Imho you have a subset of the lxc-capabilities with libvirt.
Anyone doing by any chance the same and using puppet to deploy
(application)containers?
So I could get a recommendation which module to use,

NetBIOS problems in presence of audio stream?
At work I have been given the task of building and testing a Samba server.
After several days of not being able to get the server to show up in Network
Neighborhood, I think I have discovered the problem. The business uses an
audio stream from Live365.com, apparently that is causing the other computers
to not see the Samba server in Network Neighborhood. Pinging the server

Quota reporting
Hi,
my main server will be upgraded from Dovecot 1.2something to 2.2. For
testing I've installed a setup with postfix, handing malis as a relay
via lmtp. So far it's up and running - really nice.
AFAICS there's one issue left: Thunderbird and Kmail don't show the
quota status. Using doveadm quota the information is shown correctly,
even the user-specific values (coming from

lme model: Error in MEEM
Hi,
We have data of two groups of subjects: 32 elderly, 14 young adults. for
each subject we have 15 observations, each observation consisting of a
reaction-time measure (RT) and an activation maesure (betadlpcv).
since we want to analyze the influence of (age-)group and RT on the
activation, we call:
lme(betadlpcv ~ RT*group, data=our.data, random=~ RT |subject)
this yields:
