Timezone problem
Okay I have a database with all timestamps stored in
GMT, but each customer (who''s timezone is known),
wants all data and query done in their timezone. So
presentation is the standard offset and where clauses
subtracts the offset.
Could this be done as an extension to active record
such that all queries automatically adjust dates to
the timezone of the customer?

Vector of Vectors
I have a matrix of data. I need to scan the matrix and find every
sequence from maxima to maxima across a row. I can write a loop to do
this easily. Problem is, I can't figure out how to store the results.
Each result is a vector of widely varying lengths. Ideally I'd like a
vector of these, i.e. a vector of vectors, so I can quickly iterate
through them and compute correlation

Bifurcating Autoregression
Is there any R package that implements a bifurcating autoregression,
aka the BAR(n) model? I've been reading the Huggins and Staudte paper,
"Variance Components Models for Dependent Cell Populations", from the
Journal of the American Statistical Association, 1994.

validates_format_of nil
I''ve noticed that validates_format_of will return invalid if the field
is nil.
Question 1) How should we declare a validation that will validate it
with a regex if it is set, but, if the field is not set, just move on
Question 2) Why is it done this way? The other validators are only
invoked if the field is set . If you want to declare the field
mandatory, you add a

Partitioned Index
I have the following problem, a legacy Oracle database
with partitioned indexes. Every single table has a
column that specifies the partition. So my current
thinking is to add a route section to the url that
specifies the partition (this also makes business
sense-- it''s the way URLs are currently formed). Next
make a modification to the ActiveRecord, and a lib
that for all selects,

samba4 readiness
i wanted to setup a samba4 domain, however i had a couple of questions:
1. i was thinking of using centos, however was curious what linux distro most
people use. ie what most of the samba4 documentation is written for?
2. i had read that there isn't much support for user land programs for setting
up samba4 and account administration, and that swat isn't emplimented yet; how

subversion setup for maintaining customizations to base code
To the subversion experts out there:
I''d like to set up svn to maintain customizations to my base app for
each client. A simple example would be to have a base CSS file and a
custom one for each client. What is the best way to set up svn so I
can ''co'' the trunc and then ''co'' customizations for each client on top
of the base code.

ZFS boot and data on same disk - is this supported?
I have read the ZFS best practice guide located at
http://www.solarisinternals.com/wiki/index.php/ZFS_Best_Practices_Guide
However I have questions whether we support using slices for data on the
same disk as we use for ZFS boot. What issues does this create if we
have a disk failure in a mirrored environment? Does anyone have examples
of customers doing this in production environments.

SIP KEEPALIVES, with QUALIFY and without making UNREACHABLE
Need SIP KEEPALIVES in Asterisk, but QUALIFY won't presently work for you (due to it's channel disabling behavior)?
Someone posted on the list that they would like to split "keepalives" and "qualify" into different features. Sounds like a good plan, but until that is done you can turn "qualify=" into a keepalive mechanism, without disabling your channels.

Asterisk and wall displays/reader boards
Has anyone used an LED wall display with asterisk? I have a customer who has an ancient telecorp system that drives an LED wall display. It shows the number of agents signed in, calls in queue, hold time, etc. It also sounds an alarm if the hold time exceeds a set value. I'm looking to use asterisk to replace the telecorp system. I know it can do all the CDR and historical data, but I

[R] Free Software Application for UNIX/Linux and Microsoft Windows
Dear Michael Camann,
My concern was after having a hetero-computing environment for many years, I
found that I had to keep an old version of Microsoft Windows based
applications to be able to interact with my constituents. This at times can
become very expensive. I have had to limit my budget on the UNIX/Linux
platform to compensate for Microsoft Windows based applications.

integrated voip originator, to digitize audio once and only once?
Calling 7777 from a local extension on my local
network, I get good voice quality from asterisk, and
asterisk reliably recognizes my dtmf input.
I set up a sipphone trunk (free) and called in to it
via a separate sipphone account on another computer,
and got slightly lower, but still good, audio quality.

other computer, and got somewhat lower

Discussion about Compiz and working togeher
I would like to get a better understanding as to why
Quinn's patches have not been accepted into the compiz
git tree.
I feel Quinn's patches could greatly improve compiz.
She has made quite a lot of progress wrt to enhancing
compiz with her cgwd window decorator which allows
users to write their own themes for window
decorations.
Also, many of the plugins that are in compiz.net are

Dovecot truncating messages and/or attachments
Hello, I am having problems with Dovecot not sending clients emails bigger
then 8-12k (it varies) or attachments bigger then 8-12k. I am also getting

I started off using Centos 5, with their package
