rgl.Sweave not producing transparency in pdf plots with alpha
Hi Folks,
I'm trying to get rgl.Sweave to produce plots with transparency.
However, it just seems to produce opaque plots when pdf is the output
type. Perhaps this is a known issue? I'll just use .png in the
meantime, but wanted to see about this, as I didn't see it in the
documentation (though it's possible I missed it).
Thanks,
Allie

overlaying points and lines on a surface3d rgl plot with axes
Hi R users and experts,
I am interested in learning more about the use of 3D plots. Specifically, I
want to add points and lines to a surface plot. And get the axes and labels
plotted also. Here is what I have tried with an example data set :
library(rgl)
vol2 <- 2*volcano # Exaggerate the relief
library(reshape)
mvol2 <- melt(vol2)
str(mvol2)
# First, persp and persp3d plots do not succeed

Question about function DrawDensity3D {VecStatGraphs3D}
Hi,
Here is the function DrawDensity3D in package VecStatGraphs3D. My
question is: if we use more layers than one, could we change the
function in a way that in the final plot only the outmost layer is drawn
(the inner layers omitted)?
Best regards,
Atte Tenkanen

Help with rgl
Hi,
I don't know much about the RGL package, and I have read the
documentation and tried some parameters, with no luck... I would like
to generate a movie from a 3D object (code below), where the vortex A
is closer to the observer, and then the object rotates and the B
vortex gets closer. I would like to capture this movie to a file.
By the way, I am not being able to insert unicode text

biplot package
Dears,
I've been learning biplot (Gabriel, 1971) and I found the function 'biplot', inside of the package 'stats',
useful but, a bit limited.
So, I'm thinking to start a colaborative package to enhance this methods to other multivariate methods. In this
way, I would like to start it, making public a new function (biplot.pca, still in development, but running)
that make

export/import matrix
Hello
I have a problem on keeping the format when I export a matrix file with the write.table() function.
When I import the data volcano from rgl package it looks like this in R:

advice on arguments
I have a general style question about R coding.
Suppose I'm writing a function (foo1) that calls other functions
(foo2, foo3, ...) which have complicated argument
lists (e.g. optim(), plot()), _and_
I may be calling several different functions in the body of
foo1. Since foo2 and foo3 have different sets of arguments, I
can't just use "..." ; I did write some code a while ago

Adding Text to a persp plot using specific coordinates
Hi folks,
I'm experiencing some hassle to add some text on a persp plot...
Here is the code to generate the persp plot:
x <- seq(-1.95, 1.95, length = 30)
y <- seq(-1.95, 1.95, length = 30)
z <- outer(x, y, function(a,b) a*b^2)
persp(x, y, z,xlim=c(-2,2),ylim=c(-2,2),zlim=c(-8,8), phi=30, theta=-30,nticks=8,ticktype="detailed")
I've tried the text() function :

image3d in misc3d
Hi,
I'm trying to make sense of the image3d plots in misc3d. Unfortunately I can't find any authors on the help pages of the function to e-mail directly. In the following toy example, I'm puzzled as to why (1) the positions of the image plot on the axes include negative values when I think I've specified all to be 1:3 and (2) the logic that needs to be adhered to in order to

RGL plot : cex and zlim arguments do not work
Dear all,
I have a quiet simple problem (shared by a collegue) but no solution at
yet. The arguments I use in bbox3d or text3d do not have any effect on the
graph. I need to use 'cex' and 'zlim' but It does not work. Maybe my
problem could appear trivial but I have spent a lot of time on that.
If you have a solution, please let me know!

Plotting a cloud/fog of variable density in rgl
Hi everyone,
I want to plot a 3D interpolation of the concentration of aquatic
organisms. My goal would be to have the result represented as clouds
with a density proportional to the abundance of organisms, so that I
could fly (well, swim actually ;) ) through the scene and see the
patches here and there. Basically, I want to do something like this:

Labelling individual points on 3D PCA scatterplot
Hi There,
I'm attempting to plot 10 values on a three-dimensional PCA with text labels
next to each point. While i have no trouble doing this on 2D plots using the
'text' or 'textxy' function, I cannot find a function to do this on a 3D
plot.
I am using princomp for my PCA:
>PCA<-princomp(eucdata, cor=TRUE)
>PCA$scores [,1:3] # the three principal components i

color gradation inversion.
Dear list
I'm having trouble with inverting color gradation.
As seen in the "rgl" example,
library(rgl)
example(rgl.surface)
I understand that I can assign colors to heights for each point.
col <- colorlut[ y-ylim[1]+1 ] # assign colors to heights for each point
However, I am now trying to assign inverted colors.
(top colored green, and bottom colored gray).
Is there any

rgl.postscript generating pdf: floating xlab, font size, transparency
Hello,
I very much enjoy rgl! But when converting the screen output to pdf
using rgl.postscript I have encountered three problems:
(1) I don't seem to have control over font sizes and point sizes (of
added points) in the pdf output. I tried cex from "plot" but that
does not have an effect. Initially I got some plots where fonts and
especially points were far too small. But now

Character from Symbol Font on rgl Plot
I want to print characters from the symbol font (or perhaps even Wingdings)
in an rgl 3d plot, but I am having no luck. So, what do I have to do in
order to get this snippet to print out a character from the symbol font?
library(rgl)
open3d()
text3d(1,1,1,"a",adj=c(0.5,0.5),cex=10,family="symbol",font=1)
I am on Windows XP with R 2.9.1.

save 3dplot to file
I think it is an easy question but i haven´t found a solution since I
am r beginner.
I did this
plot3d(PCoA, type="p", col=rainbow(1000),size=5)
text3d(PCoA, text=Nam)
How can I save it including the labels to a jpg-file?
Thanks in advance.

Annotation rgl plot
Hi,
i was wondering if there is a way to annotate rgl plot, after searching i
haven't found anything suitable. I saw function text3d but was thinking more
about text on the margin, so not interactive.
Thanks

plot3d, color points by group
Hello
I've created a 3d scatterplot, and had no problems labeling the points.
However, I've been really struggling to change the color of the points based
on a factor (see 'group' below). Is such a thing possible?
My data look like this:
food group x y z
apple fruit 0.216 -0.112 -0.893
orange fruit 0.814 0.097 0.460
broccoli veg -0.239 0.240 -0.425

biplot package II
Dear all,
I've been learning biplot (Gabriel, 1971) and some days ago I sent for
this list a procedural function with invitation for a collaborative package.
Jari Oksanen made some suggestions and I agree with all.
So, I reworked the function under the object-oriented programming
(OOP/S3). I think it is now a good frame for more resources.
Below it is the function and a small script to
