poisson mean hypothesis
Dear R-users, Is there a way to get p-values for a one-sided hypothesis test about a poisson mean? Effect display of proportional odds model
Dear useRs, I very much like the effect display of the proportional odds model on page 29 (Figure 8) of the following paper by John Fox: http://socserv.mcmaster.ca/jfox/Papers/logit-effect-displays.pdf It really gives a very concise overview of the model. I would like to use it to illustrate the proportional odds mixed models we fit here for a project on Diabetes but I can't seem to reproduce

R(D)COM and Excel compile error
Dear R-users, I tried to install the R(D)COM server version 1.35, to connect MS Excel and R. I am using R-version 2.1.0 on a Windows environment. And I am using MS Excel 2000 in a dutch version. I get the following error when I open Excel: "Compile error, can not find the project or the library" (translated from dutch). And it indicates LEFT in blue bold. Does anyone of you know what

finite mixture model, using flexmix
Dear R-users, I would like to use the package flexmix to fit latent classes to a regression model. My data are repeated measurements of bernouilli variables so I can use the binomial family link to the glm function. The design is not balanced, meaning that for some individuals in my data set I have 10 measurements or more, for others I only have 5 or even less. My question is the following. Can

rsprng doesn't install on Debian (woody) (PR#2378)
Full_Name: Emmanuel Charpentier Version: 1.6.1 OS: Linux 2.4.20 / Debian Woody Submission from: (NULL) (80.15.78.96) rsprng depends on libraries available in the "genesis" package. However, even when Genesis is installed, the installation of the source package fails for not finding rsprng.h. It turns out that Debian installs it in a subdirectoru of /usr/include, and that the rsprng

rsprng, snow, rmpi interactions
The proper use of SPRNG is a little unclear to me in each of these packages, even more so when I put them all together. My immediate question: in snow I did clusterSetupSRNG. If a later want to (re) set the system to a known seed, how do I do it? That is, I want each distributed process to recreate exactly the same random numbers that it did before; I assume SPRNG assures the streams are

random number generator with SNOW/ Parallel/ foreach
Dear All, I have three classes of questions about generating random numbers with different packages (windows xp 32bit R). . 1. Suppose I would like to use package *foreach*, can I use current Sys.time as a seed? Although I can get the time up to1e-6 second precesion, the code below dose not work well on a local machine with two cores. ################# library(foreach) library(snow)

Need some advice on optimization
Hi I'm quite new to optimization algorithms and I could use some advice or pointers. I'm using ?optim (method L-BFGS-B) to optimize a function over a 60-dimensional parameter space. The function itself takes about 1 to 6 minutes to compute. It finds an optimum after 6 tot 24 hours, depending on the problem I need to solve. For me, speed is an issue and I would like to reduce this to 1

sprng 2.0 header file for Rmpi
When I try to install Rmpi, it has a dependency rsprng which, as its description says: Provides interface to SPRNG 2.0 APIs I installed it on Mepis by installing the appropriate debs with minimal drama. In the rpm world of Fedora, no such luxury. Installing rsprng fails because: checking sprng.h usability... no checking sprng.h presence... no checking for sprng.h... no Cannot find sprng 2.0

user supplied random number generators
?Random.user says (in svn trunk) Optionally, functions \code{user_unif_nseed} and \code{user_unif_seedloc} can be supplied which are called with no arguments and should return pointers to the number of seeds and to an integer array of seeds. Calls to \code{GetRNGstate} and \code{PutRNGstate} will then copy this array to and from \code{.Random.seed}. And it offers as an example void

random numbers
Although this query was inspired by distributed random number generation, one of the questions (#2 below) is a single-machine issue. I call C++ code from R to generate simulated data. I'm doing this on a cluster, and use rmpi and rsprng. While rsprng randomizes R-level random numbers (e.g., from runif), it has no effect on the C code, which is completely SPRNG and MPI ignorant. Currently I

last observation carried forward +1
Hi R-helpers I'm looking for a vectorised function which does missing value replacement as in last observation carried forward in the zoo package but instead of a locf, I would like the locf function to add +1 to each time a missing value occurred. See below for an example. > require(zoo) > x <- 5:15 > x[4:7] <- NA > coredata(na.locf(zoo(x))) [1] 5 6 7 7 7 7 7 12 13

Snow Package and SPRNG: Will it solve my problem?
Hello and thanks in advance for your time. I currently have a simulation running on my cluster with the help of snow that relies on global variables being changes regularly to random values. It uses these values, lets call them x1 x2 and x3, in custom functions for logliklyhood and score that gets used in the standard optim function. To get set in the global table on the different

Does rattle depend on testing's ggobi?
Hello All, I'm trying to install rattle from source on a AMD64 machine running etch. I have two packages installed from the etch backport (r-cran-rodbc and r-cran-rsprng) but all the rest installed from source. I'm trying to install rattle, but install.packages("rattle", dependencies=TRUE) Tries to install rggobi, which complains about the version of libggobi. Does
