Error 127 and dlltool
Hello:
Many thanks to Professor Ripley for responding to my earlier post, included below, about trying to use mingw32 gcc.I did put back the original Rinternals.h. I am still crashing R every time I try to use C code.
Here is what I did, basd on readme.packages:
1.) Ensured that C:\Rtools was first in my path, and obtained a new tools.zip from BDR's R tools site.
2.) Ensured that I

Ok, I think I may have a path or permissions problem (below). Anyone know which settings I should check?
When I use

But instead to get a build package i am getting (see below). At first glance it seems to me that i understand the output. At something similar i am looking most of my

running Rcmd INSTALL, again
Ok, one last try. R1.2.0, WinNT 4.0:

Can anyone give a hint what the following error message (when running Rcmd

AW: running Rcmd INSTALL, again
Indeed, there is no file named "dlltool" anywhere around here!
So, at last I am beginning to suspect that my collection of tools is
incomplete.
What I have got is "rw1020sp.zip" and
"http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/bdr/RWin/tools.zip". These are properly
istalled, I think.
readme.packages says "If your package has no C nor Fortran nor C++ sources,

Rcmd SHLIB in rw1031 (R for Win)
Thanks for the answers on readme.packages.
I have installed Rw1031 from SetupR.exe including the option
for compiling source files and, following directions in
www.stats.ox.ac.ul/pub/Rtools, have installed:
-tools.zip
-Perl (Active Perl)
-mingw-1.1.tar.gz
-copied sh.exe to c:\bin\sh.exe
After Perl installation, its directory is added to my path. I have also
added the directory where the R

Hello, I am a new R user, using version 1.5.1. I am
attempting to run R programs from a dos command line

be able to use R from batch scripts in both windows
and also in Linux eventually later.
When I first ran "rcmd BATCH --help" it said that

Does dlltools in 64-bit rtools for windows support 64-bit machine type?
Hi,
I've been trying to get the python bridge (rpy2) to build for 64-bit R
and python. The current stumbling block is that mingw can't use the
python27.lib file that comes with CPython and so I need to generate
libpython27.a.
When I use dlltool from rtools to do that however, I end up with a 32-bit file:
>"G:\Rtools\gcc-4.6.3\i686-w64-mingw32\bin\dlltool" -e libpython27.a

I'm using R 1.5.1 on Windows.
I chose the option 'Install Source Files' when installing R.
The code below shows my use of the command SHLIB and the error I get.

Dear R experts,
Sorry, I am resending this, since I have not received this mail myself for
the past 5 hours.
I saw a similar question dated July 2. But there is no answer to it. Does
anybody have a solution to it?
I am using window NT, and the R version is 1.5.1, the SJava package is the
binary version SJavaWin_0.62-8.zip.

Building Rmysql Source in Windows XP: DLLTOOL can't find DEF file

I have a question regarding building the Rmysql packages from source in
Windows.
I am currently using: Windows XP, R-2.2.0, Mysql 3.23
I have installed all of the tools from Installation and Administration
and after following all the instructions to the letter, I compiled the
binary and installed R 2.2.0 from source with no issues. This is the

AW: running Rcmd INSTALL: working now!
I almost didn't believe in it anymore, but Rcmd INSTALL finally is working
for me!
Thanks to all who helped on this, especially to Guido Masarotto, Brian
Ripley, John Fox, Peter Dalgaard, Uwe Ligges.
Anyway, I do think the documentation is a bit confusing here (at least for
me, I don't know if others have felt the same). It might be a good idea to
add the essence of Brians and Guidos

Question about Constraint Optimization
Dear All,
I am having trouble in using R function "constrOptim" to do constraint
optimization. It seems that "constrOptim" calls function "optim" when it
does the optimization, and "optim" allows us to set "method" to be "SANN"
if we want to use simulated annealing. In "optim", the function allows us
to set gradient to be

I think SANN method in optim() is failing to report that it has not

I don't really know my way around the code base of COFF well enough todo
this myself.
