R-patched for Windows
I've put up a build of the current R-patched (and updated recommended
packages) for Windows at
     http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/bdr/RWin/Rpre/SetupRpatched.exe
This should be able to rename files on Win 9x (unlike the mid-May build)
and can build packages accessing Rblas.dll.
As ever, this is less tested than an official release, in particular only
on Windows XP, but ought to have fewer

Problem about Rconsole: R for Windows Version 1.5.0 Patched (2002-06-05 and 2002-06-12)
R (Windows version) users/developers:
While I have checked R-help/-devel mailing lists and R-bug-tracking
system, this problem has not been reported so far. I would like to know
whether this problem is specific to my machine.
Lately I downloaded the version 1.5.0 patched [for windows] from

Rterm on Windows 2000 now works.
Guido has fixed Rterm hanging on Windows 2000 in interactive and --ess
modes. The problem was that 'PulseEvent' doesn't work under 2000 as
documented (and I can find nothing about this in MicroSoft's Knowledge
Base except that it is known to happen under a debugger).
The cross-compiled pre-release at http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/bdr/RWin/Rpre
now incoporates the fix, and we

R-1.5.1 scheduled for Monday, June 17
As the subject says, the core team has decided to release R-1.5.1 next
Monday, mainly to "officialize" the bug fixes in the current
r-patched. It would be helpful that you check it out and report back
if you find any bad problems, especially if you have an uncommon
platform. (Or very minor nits. The intermediate ones are "out of
bounds" at this stage.)

[LLVMdev] generate a weird 'and' instruction
When I use the next code to print all the opcode name in a file xx.o whose
source file contains statements "if (diff != 0) klee_assume(diff>0)", then
an opcode name 'and' was printed. Where is the 'and' instruction from? I
checked the file xx.ll of xx.o and I didn't find a 'and' instruction of
these two statements.
Besides, when I commented out statement

Generate rand. data with zero skewness and some kurtosis
Dear all,
Right now, I'm doing research about outlier in statistical data
(univariate and multivariate) and I want to simulate its behavior. My
problem is :
How to generate random data from distribution with zero skewness and
some kurtosis values in R ?

Summary on random data with zero skew and some kurtosis
Thanks to all who response my problem. Here are my summary :

We could try a mixture of normals -- ie flip a coin (use a uniform with
some cutoff c where 0 < c < 1 ) to choose between N(0, sigma_1) and N(0,
sigma_2).

R 1.1.0 going into feature freeze
The planned release of R 1.1.0 will be next Thursday. The development
version is going into feature freeze tomorrow, meaning that we'll only
do testing and fix simple bugs during the next week.
Those of you who prefer to find bugs before releases instead of
afterwards may want to try it out and tell us what crawls out.

Rcmd ?
Hi,
I tried running Rcmd.exe to no avail. It doesn't even start because it tries
to read some memory address that NT says it can't and terminate.
I tried downloading and reinstalling rw1020sp.zip with the installer twice
just in case it got corrupted somehow in transport but it resulted in the
same problem.
What should I do?

Newbie question - handling dates as x-axis variable
Hi, all. Please forgive my ignorance
as I'm just beginning to investigate
R for use in my company as a primary
analytical tool ...
I have data which I've read into a data frame
with the following command:
mkt <- read.csv("h:/qdamrtm.csv",header=T)
I'd like to investigate the relationship(s)
(or lack thereof) between the given variables,
and have developed a variety of
