Help with R Installation on Debian 2.2.19 (old stable/potato)
Hi all,
I hope this is the correct list to post such a question.
I was trying to install the R-project on Debian and encountered significant
problems with the same.
The main problem is the installation of the libc6 package. I need this
package in order to install the R-core package. However, the libc6 is
dependent on the libdb1-compat package, which just refuses to install on my
server.

Hi. First of all, congratulations on the nice job. I downloaded your
Debian packages for the libraries and ogg123, but the dependencies are
wrong: the stable version of Debian (potato) ships with libc6 version
2.1.3, but your packages

Debian packages for R-1.3.0
I have installed the binary packages for Debian GNU/Linux release 2.3
(woody) in the U.S. mirror of the CRAN archive. They should propagate
to the main CRAN archive within a day and to the other mirrors within
two days.
These packages have been compiled with gcc-3.0 and g77-3.0. I believe
the testing distribution currently provides only a snapshot of
gcc-3.0, not the latest released version, so

R-1.4.1 crashes on Debian Woody
Hi-
I've upgraded to Debian Woody. I've downloaded and installed the new R-1.4.1.
However, it crashes on me, complaining about libblas.so.2.
BTW, what's the difference between r-base and r-recommended?
Any ideas?
TIA

I am using samba 3.0.9 on Debian (woody) IA 64 bit server. I have made
a post on linuxquestions.org which contains my compilation and its
arguments, krb5.conf, smb.conf, also my kinit and wbinfo -u, g, t, all
of which work. I also have the official samba guide and samba by
example. I do not have telnet installed and have tried to configure my
SSH PAM options. I was wondering if anyone

domain groups in samba 2.2.3a debian woody
Hello, I'm using samba 2.2.3a in debian woody. I've set up the debian server as a PDC, and clients can join and log in fine. What I'm now looking for is how to set up groups for my users. When I try to set the security for a file in windows, I see the users on the linux server, but no groups. How do I map between unix group and samba groups? I've seen mention of the

rsprng doesn't install on Debian (woody) (PR#2378)
Full_Name: Emmanuel Charpentier

OS: Linux 2.4.20 / Debian Woody

rsprng depends on libraries available in the "genesis" package. However, even
when Genesis is installed, the installation of the source package fails for not
finding rsprng.h. It turns out that Debian installs it in a subdirectoru of
/usr/include, and that the rsprng

Festival Installation - Asterisk 1.0-RC2 && Debian Woody
Hey All,
Thought I'd take a bash at trying to get Festival to work here on my lab
system with the aim of using it to create our IVR menu prompts. I've
spent most of the afternoon searching through the Wiki, the Festival
website and Google and I've got a couple of questions.
First one is that the 'Asterisk+festival+installation' page on the Wiki
mentions the RedHat 9 RPMs

Samba and netbios --- HEEEEELLLP!!!
Wow, ok, whatever the problem is, I'm now pretty convinced that it's over my
head. I am trying to setup samba as the PDC for our network. I cannot for
the life of me get it to work. I went home, tried it on my laptop and it
worked in 15 seconds. I came to work, setup the server exactly the same
and...nothing. "The domain either does not exist or could not be contacted"
blah blah.

Compile Samba-2.2.4
As the list probably already knows I'm fairly new to Linux / Samba. Please
bare with me. =)
I've managed to compile Samba-2.2.4. The first compile went wrong using the
"configure -with ldap" command (something like that). Anyway 2 days later
after apt-get' ting any packages with "lib" and those that sound like they
belong in the build =) I got it to compile

'passwd chat' for Debian Woody password sync
what is the 'passwd chat' line for Samba 2.2.3a-12.3 on Debian Woody that enables
password synchronisation with Windows 2000 clients in a domain?
I currently have this in smb.conf but it doesn't work:
unix password sync = yes
passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u
passwd chat = *Enter\snew\sUNIX\spassword:* %n\n *Retype\snew\sUNIX\spassword:*

Win2k Browse Problem
Hi All:
I have a Debian 2.1 system running Samba 2.0.4 which works fine with
Win95/98/NT4.0
but does not show the samba shares when the client is Win2k. You can
mount the share OK even though it has a little red tail in the Windows
Explorer, just can't browse to mount it.
Do I have a problem or should I be patient and it will be fixed in the
new samba release???
Thanks,
Richard Hogue
