VM Slowness
I hope this in the right list, but I was wondering if someone could help me with a VM I have that has lately started having problems. It had been running for years without problems. It's possible an update is causing this, but I can't say. The VM is running CentOS 5.8 and after a time, the machine begins to slow down. Things like pings or running commands lag. If I reboot the VM, it runs

Server reboots unexpectebly.
Dear group, I am in the process of configuring 2 new servers. They are running Centos 5.5 and for the last three days they have been rebooting unexpectedly, can you point me in the right direction what to look for in the logs. I have been checking /var/log/messages but don't see anything that hint me any clues why this is happening. Your input is much much appreciated. Lisandro PS. These are

CentOS 5.6 and KVM failure
After updating to 5.6 on a server this morning, I can no longer boot two virtual machines. One is trixbox which I believe is a 32bit centos based distro, and the other vm is a 64bit Windows 2008 installation. The error I get in the virt-manager console is FATAL: No bootable device. Both VMs are qcow2 format, and I've checked file permissions. I'm going to boot a live cd in the trixbox vm

Maybe what Centos needs is a bridal registry. Here in the US, an engaged couple can tell their friends what they'd like to be given as wedding presents. They do this by listing items in a registry, in various stores around town. Anyway, the idea is, post stuff you need in a list on your site. Say you need 20 hard drives, or a particular power supply, or whatever items that get consumed in

CentOS and Marvell SAS/SATA drivers
Hello all, I've been on a real roller coaster ride getting a large virtual host up and running. One troublesome thing I've discovered (the hard way) is that the drivers for Marvell SAS/SATA chips still have a few problems. After Googling around quite a bit, I see a significant number of others have had similar issues, especially evident in the Ubuntu forums but also for a few

Vmware server 2.0.2 and Centos 5.4
I know of the issue using vmware server 2.0.2 and centos 5.4, but is their any reason not to use the .rpm install of for centos? I have always used the .tar file but this time used the rpm and it appeared to install and not crash. I went ahead and did the glib correction but I was wondering if using the rpm was not the rght thing to do, Thanks. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML

MS Access
I need to have a server built and ready to install by this weekend, and I'm trying to decide whether to use the customer's copy of Windows 2000 Server, or Ubuntu or Centos. I think Ubuntu would have a newer version of samba. The problem is, for this one server, about 20 users hammer MS Access databases all day, and samba seems to have had issues with Access in the past. Is that still the

Centosplus vmware kernels....???
OK, so I need to bring up a new vm and was wondering what the state of vm kernels for centos. I have read this http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=2189about the tick divider but it wasn't clear what the best step forward is for centos 5.1 was, i usually ran with the clocksource=pit option and it looked like that and the divider option caused a problem. I have in the past compiled my own but

KVM Host Disk Performance
Hello all, I'm having quite an interesting time getting up to speed with KVM/QEMU and the various ways of creating virtual Guest VMs. But disk I/O performance remains a bit of a question mark for me. I'm looking for suggestions and opinions .... This new machine has tons of disk space, lots of CPU cores and loads of RAM, so those are not issues. I currently have several software

Dumb Centos 8 DNF mirror question...
I have several Centos 8 machines that I update and every now and again I will go through and update all of them and one of them will get a slow mirror, like downloading the kernel at 50kb etc. With the newer version I am unable to figure out how to force it to update the mirror list and hopefully change to a faster mirror. I have searched but must not be using the right verbiage since I am unable
