Browsercam.com Annual Membership
I have been using browsercam.com for CSS testing, but it is rather
expensive. Recently, I discovered others using funadable.org to
purchase a yearly membership as a group.
A year long membership at browsercam.com costs $480.00. This gives us
25 user accounts. I am proposing that 25 people throw in $19.20 for
their 1/25th share of the membership cost. Once I have raised $479.40

Instance methods in runner?
I am having a devil of a time with some runner actions.
I can not seem to call any instance methods on found records.
Even when I strip is down to the basics:
def self.deliver
self.find(:all, :conditions => ["#{Message.table_name}.status
= ?", ''pending''], :include => [:site, :template]).each {|m|

[INFO] SMS Aggregators
Awhile ago, I posted some information about SMS Aggregators, this is
just a follow-up, based on changes in the US market.
As of January 31st, any commercial application, sending to US
networks, is required to lease a CSC (short code) from CTIA.
A CSC runs $6000/year for a random code, and $12,000/year for a
vanity code.
These charges are on top of the normal per message fees.
This does

Cleaning up has_and_belongs_to_many?
Does has_and_belongs_to_many know to delete an object when the last
reference to it is removed?
In my case I have Receiver <<->> Message (with a join table of course),
but have noticed that when the last receiver removes a message from the
association the message still exists.
Before adding code to manage this situation I want to check to see if I
am missing something?

Net::SMS::BulkSMS 0.1
This is the first release of a new Ruby library for the
www.bulksms.co.ukAPI which should allow simple integration of SMS
functionality into your
Ruby or Rails apps.
Sending a message is as simple as:
@service = Service.new(''username'', ''password'')
@service.send_message(''This is my message!'', ''4479123456789'')

self-referencing has_many
Having a devil of a time finding records in a self-referencing has_many
table relationship.
Everything is working find looking at the has_many and the belongs_to
relationship.
But, when I try to find all "orphans", records that are neither a parent
nor a child, I can not find a query that work in ActiveRecord.
This query works in MySQL:
SELECT * FROM templates
LEFT JOIN templates

Possible Rails Security Issue?
I have an e-commerce site and users check out with a form. The
results of that form are sent to a "confirm your order" page via
POST. I take great pains to NEVER store the full credit card number
on my server--just the last 4 digits. I was very surprised to find
that by default Rails will record POST requests with parameters in
the production.log. And those parameters

Creating thumbnail on the fly
I was doing some research about creating thumbnail images on the fly
after an image has been uploaded in a form, but for some reason it''s not
working for me. I''ve downloaded ImageMagick 6.2.5 for Mac but when I run
a test (identify image.gif) it gives me this error:
dyld: Library not loaded: /sw/lib/libjpeg.62.dylib

Acts_as_taggable pluralize
I am implementing a messaging system, which requires broadcast to group
feature.
Instead of a relatively clunky habtm group structure, I am using tags.
Form a usability standpoint, it would be helpful to avoid redundant
tags. Like, friend vs friends OR client vs. clients.
Is it practical to filter tags, before entry, to avoid duplicate tags
like plural vs. singular?

Stories with many tags, tags with many stories, has_and_belongs_to_many howto?
Hi,
I began experimenting with habtm relationships, and so I created a
stories table, a tags table, and a stories_tags table referencing the
former 2.
When I create a "story", I want to add several tags to it. Then, the
model should create those tags and link them to the respective stories,
and for the tags that already exists, just link them to the story.
I tried something like

Adding payment to an app: how hard and risky is it?
Hi all.
I have never implemented online payment and it''s the only thing that
keeps me from accepting a project for a UK based client. (I must reply
quickly!)
While I can afford spending an extra week - or 2 - to learn/try/tune the
payment system, I must be sure to succeed before I accept the contract.
If you''ve already been through that path, any hints, links and/or

Triple relationship
Hi list,
I need to represent a relationship between three tables:
Tags (id, name)
Users (id, name, email, ... )
Documents (id, title, ... )
I created a forth table called Assignments(id, tag-id, user-id,
document-id, date).
I have couple of questions:
Should I use belongs-to and has-many to capture this? If so, How can I
do that?
should I have the id as the primary key in Assignment table or

acts_as_taggable -- which one?
There appear to be three acts_as_taggable implementations and I''m looking for
a recommendation on which to use.
- Gem
- DHH plugin
- Dema mixin
The Gem implementation appears to be obsolescent, from what I can read on
the lists and Google search.
I like that the DHH plugin uses polymorphic associations because there will
be lots of different taggable items in my application; however,

acts_as_taggable v2 - Tagging on Steroids
Hi folks,
Thanks to the community feedback on the 1st version, I''ve come up with a
much improved version of the acts_as_taggable mixin.
ThereĀ“s some piece of the action here:

id column for join table... kosher?
I''ve got two tables, bookmarks & tags. Using a
has_and_belongs_to_many association, I can do lookups using a join
table called bookmarks_tags. Two questions:
1. Can I have a migration for my join tables? Rails seems to "know"
about join tables implicitly from the associations, but if I do a
rake migrate the join tables won''t be built. I''ve been

problem with posting with acts as taggable on steroids
hi all
i''m trying to have a post with tags included but i''m getting
undefined method `tag_with''
i''ve already added acts_as_taggable to the model
and on the controller the code for creating the post is:
def create
@post = Post.new(params[:post])
@post.tag_with(params[:tag_list])
@post.user = current_user
if @post.save
