Convert VirtualBox VM to xVM?
Hi all, I''m in the process of building a home server with OpenSolaris 2009.06. It''s main function is to serve files (hence using OpenSolaris for some ZFS goodness), but I want to host some Windows x64 VMs on it as well. Given that there are currently no x64 Windows drivers for xVM, I was thinking of starting with VirtualBox (which does have x64 Windows drivers), and then

Opensolaris domU HostID Changes on Every Boot
I''m running an Opensolaris domU on Xen with a Linux dom0. Xen is version 3.3.1, I''m running the Genunix.org build 130 of Opensolaris. I have the uuid defined in my domU configuration file, but this doesn''t seem to affect the fact that the hostid is different every single time the domU boots. For some reason this doesn''t affect the root ZFS pool, which imports

windows xp domU consuming 200% cpu (dom0 is quad-core) at idle
What have I done wrong? I installed an xp (service pack 2) domU using the virt-install example from the man page, on a zfs volume. I noticed this behavior on build 129, and I replicated the behavior on build 130: root@opensolaris:/tmp# virsh version Compiled against library: libvir 0.7.0 Using library: libvir 0.7.0 Using API: Xen 3.0.1 Running hypervisor: Xen 3.4 root@opensolaris:/tmp#

Code review for stopper: 7315 xVM VNC service doesn''t work
http://cr.opensolaris.org/~johnlev/xvm-vnc-chown/ Now Xvnc runs as the ''jack'' user on the live CD, the password file must be owned by jack for it to work. Note that a full fix for this would make this VNC service only exist on the live CD[1]. As a temporary measure, we just disable ourselves post-install. Process question: after putting back to pkg-gate, does this need

Install RedHat/CentOS domU on OpenSolaris with ISO image
Dear all, The below is my steps to setup RedHat/CentOS domU on OpenSolaris with ISO image.Although there are some guides to describe how to install Linux on domU,but their install media are from http or OpenSuSe image. I find there is some different from RedHat ISO image. 1) $pfexec svcadm enable svc:/network/nfs/client:default # I find the nfs client is disabled by default, this issue spent

Solaris 10 domU under OpenSolaris dom0
Sorry if this was answered before. It''s hard to figure out what keywords to use in order to narrow the search. I''m looking into running Solaris 10 as a guest under an OpenSolaris dom0 host. Is this feasible, and if so, can someone point me to the best "howto" to reduce the frustration level? Otherwise, is there a better host OS to do this under? Thanks, Gary

Using a .img to store a domu...problem with virt-install
Before I begin let me preface by saying I am a beginner so please excuse any foolishness on my part. If you follow this link http://hub.opensolaris.org/bin/view/Community+Group+xen/virtinstall ; you will see that there is supposedly an option for virt-install (--disk) where you can specify what you want to use as the disk for you dom0. For very specific reasons I need to use to have this as a .img

How to increase number of cpu on domu installed using virt-install?
I am still trying to find my way around on setting up VM''s. I have install 2 domu instances that are opensolaris and have just done a 3rd that is Solaris 10. My problem is that on the Solaris 10 configuration I did not specify number of processors so it defaulted to 1. How can I change the number of default processors for a domu? The Virtual Machine Manager will not show me any details so

Too fast clock in domU
Hi! Besides wishing y''all a Merry Christmas! :), I have the following question: when is the bug (is this a bug?) planned to be fixed, that the clock goes like crazy under Win in a domU? The closest thing I could find is here http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?messageID=147903 , but that is not the same. Thanks This message posted from opensolaris.org

How to build Xen with on-src-b79
I am trying to build Xen from on-src-b79. According to opensolaris website, all xVM sources should be in the on-src-b79 tree, and no additional sources are required. I followed the procedure for doing the nightly build, and I expected that, as a result I will build, along with the Solaris kernel, the xen.gz image. I was hoping to copy that xen.gz image to my test machine, so I can boot with my own
