Hi all, I''m in the process of building a home server with OpenSolaris 2009.06. It''s main function is to serve files (hence using OpenSolaris for some ZFS goodness), but I want to host some Windows x64 VMs on it as well. Given that there are currently no x64 Windows drivers for xVM, I was thinking of starting with VirtualBox (which does have x64 Windows drivers), and then converting to xVM at a later date. So, I was wondering: is it possible to migrate a Windows VirtualBox VM to run on xVM? If so, is it a difficult process? Thanks! Matt -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

It maybe depend even more on the hardware you intend to use and the planned tasks for the windows systems. (Viridian guest support is available in WinXP SP3, Vista SP2 (afaik), Win2k8 and win7) Florian

Also, is xVM gate 3.4 available as packaged install, or does it need to be built from source?> It maybe depend even more on the hardware you intend > to use and the > planned tasks for the windows systems.Hardware is consumer - Intel (branded) 965-based motherboard, extra Skymaster Sil3124-based SATA card, lots of 1TB WD disks. Planned tasks are not strenuous either - this is a home server. Most of the work will be file serving, handled by OpenSolaris native / running as Dom0 (depending on whether I use xVM or not).> (Viridian guest support is available in WinXP SP3, > Vista SP2 (afaik), > Win2k8 and win7)Guests will be a couple of W2K8 x64 VMs, plus possibly one or two W2K3 / WXP x86 VMs. Cheers, Matt -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
