windows xp domU consuming 200% cpu (dom0 is quad-core) at idle
What have I done wrong? I installed an xp (service pack 2) domU using the virt-install example from the man page, on a zfs volume. I noticed this behavior on build 129, and I replicated the behavior on build 130: root@opensolaris:/tmp# virsh version Compiled against library: libvir 0.7.0 Using library: libvir 0.7.0 Using API: Xen 3.0.1 Running hypervisor: Xen 3.4 root@opensolaris:/tmp# root@opensolaris:/tmp# cat /etc/release OpenSolaris Development snv_130 X86 Copyright 2009 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All Rights Reserved. Use is subject to license terms. Assembled 18 December 2009 root@opensolaris:/tmp# ''xm top'' shows 200% utilitzation, while my xp machine is sitting idle. The xp domU task manager shows it is idle; it''s a fresh install of xp and the domU has 512M assigned to it (domU has 8G, zfs_arc_max is limited in /etc/system) ; no other domUs are set up on my dom0. I''ve tried --vcpus=2 and --vcpus=1 on different installs, no effect. I''ve rebooted my dom0 and the xp domU multiple times, and I still see the same behavior. I''ve created other domUs (non-windows os) on this machine, both --hvm and --para, and I don''t witness the same problem. Any ideas?

Re: windows xp domU consuming 200% cpu (dom0 is quad-core) at idle
Hello everyone, I''ve done few more installations of different OS builds with different xVM/Xen versions on different servers and always the same problem as described by Richard - MS Windows XP is idle, but xm top shows 200% utilitzation on 2vcpu installation. Is this some kind of bug?? Obviously this makes xVM in OpenSolaris absolutely unusable for MS Windows XP virtualization. Thanks Philip -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

(Concluded from my personal experience) Just use win7 or 2008R2 if possible. Florian
