Why is there no Smalltalk-like IDE for Ruby?
I posted this to comp.lang.ruby and comp.lang.smalltalk, and my blog. I will likely get destroyed, but it will be worth it if at least one nugget of information helps the Ruby IDE makers. ----------------------------------------- Hi all -- I shout my question to the entire Ruby + Smalltalk community: Smalltalk has had amazing IDEs for decades, why not Ruby? Smalltalkers, Ruby needs your help!

''Best'' IDE for testing and debugging
I''m trying to decide which IDE to go with for RoR development. I put a high premium on integrated test automated tools and debugging capabilities. I''d appreciate any sharing of experience. I''m currently running Instant Rails on a Windows 2000 box (using IR due to problems I encountered trying to get all the components set up individually). Also, I''m using

Fast Ruby Debugger?
After developing in Java for years in IDEs I''m starving for a decent ruby debugger. When learning new codebasesI find it invaluable to use the debugger to step through the system and see how things work at runtime. Using RDT in Eclipse is fine but it''s excruciating to wait minutes for the default debugger to finally reach my breakpoints on tests that normally take seconds to

WYSIWYG IDE, etc...
I''m new to Ruby, so don''t be too hard on me. Is there a great visual editor for Ruby? Also can Ruby on Rails (RoR) work with any other databases other than the ones listed in the documentation, I need to connect to SQLBase? Can Ruby be used to create standalone Applications (like Java)? If yes, does it create native looking apps? Can it be use in Client-Side and/or Server

Rails Masters'' debugging techniques -> Rails Recipes?
Hi, This msg for Chad Fowler or anyone who fits the subject line. I bought the Recipes book and really like the way it has been progressing. There is one subject I''d like to see explored in detail. Having come from Assembly and C background I find that a ''must have'' tool in your collection is the debugger. I find debugging a Rails App the most thorny issue inversely

[LLVMdev] IDE on *nix
Hi all, Is anyone using any flavour of Unix to develop LLVM? I suppose the Apple guys are using Mac, right? ;) I've seen some docs on the website to set-up Visual Studio but I haven't seen anything related to cross-platform IDEs (such as Eclipse) and how to attach the tests to them. So far I'm not doing any modifications to the LLVM and my project is still too small to become a

What do you think about commercial applications for Rails?
Hello all, I''m a RoR fan. I''ve read some RoR books, and I''m starting to use RoR for commercial proyects. As I use RoR more and more, I think about inexistent tools that would be great to have when developing applications in RoR. For example: an IDE with more features than RadRails. So then I think "hey! you could produce one of these tools". Some of these

rmagick->X11 on MacTel Howto?
I needed to install rmagick/GraphicsMagick on an IntelMac and did so from Darwinports. Some things work and others don''t work, like rendering fonts which needs X11 fonts and X server. Hello everybody, I''m a new member on Ruby on Rails. I''m friendly on using Microsoft Visual Studio (VS) IDE. The VS IDE supports for Intellisense coding (that mean it will automatically display a list of member variables or functions for a class, struct, union, or namespace; the names and types of parameters required by a function or attribute; and the complete declaration for
