Ocfs and EMC Powerpath
A couple years ago, we moved to Oracle RAC on Linux using ocfs that is
SAN attached to an EMC CLARiiON. At the time, there was a reason that we
did NOT use EMC's Powerpath (I just can't recall what that reason was).
What I'd like to know is if there are any issues with introducing
Powerpath now.
* RHEL 2.1 AS
* 2.4.9-e.38enterprise
* ocfs-2.4.9-e-enterprise-1.0.13-1

[Fwd: Re: Ocfs and EMC Powerpath]
That should say below, we are using Powerpath on the CX300's AND the
CX600's...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
We are using Powerpath with CX300's and Emulex HBA's, also with OCFS on
Red Hat 2.1 AS.
Kernel upgrades are the biggest issue that we have, as some of the
drivers are dependent on modules built for specific kernels, and if your

EMC Clariion stanby power supply
Hello All.
I'm working on building support for the Clariion range of standby power
supplies. I've found you can get hold of these easily on ebay like:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EMC-CLARiiON-Standby-Power-Supply-118031985-
SPS-1000W-/160373295258
There is a problem that I haven't been able to work around. After 90 seconds
without power, the device shuts down. This is because

I?ve 2 node cluster each being Dell 2850 Server with RHEL 4.0
I?ve EMC CX300 SAN storage with following partitions

The datafiles are on ASM which is not directly visible in OS.

EMC CX4 Clariion
Hi,
We had received a new EMC storage (Clariion CX4) and the EMC analist has
told us that CentOS aren't on their support list, but RHEL are :)
Well anybody on the list has a CentOS host talking (iSCSI) with an EMC storage,
preferably using the EMC Powerpath software, and can talk about you experience?
Or I will need to buy some REHL licenses ?
I'll put my hands on it only next

problem with OCFS label
I used this command to create volume label on OCFS:
mkfs.ocfs -F -b 128 -L data13 -m /oradata/data13 -u oracle -g dba -p 0775 /dev/emcpowerp1
emcpowerp is composed of /dev/sdad and /dev/sdk. It seems the above command created the same labels for /dev/emcpowerp1, /dev/sdad1 and /dev/sdk1.
But when I tried to mount this ocfs filesystem by label, it gave me the following error.
# mount -L data13

CentOS and EMC PowerPath/Naviagent
Is anyone using CentOS 4.4 with an EMC Clariion SAN?
In particular, I want to know if PowerPath and Naviagent will work on a
CentOS 4 system connected to a san using Qlogic or Emulex cards. I tried
a couple years ago with Fedora Core 1 or 2, and couldn't get the kernel
modules from PowerPath to work since the kernel wasn't the official RHEL
one.

Resize ocfs....?
I've tried several times to resize one of my ocfs volumes[see emcpowere1 below]
I'm on the latest [prod] version of ocfs/ocfs-tools as of 3pm EST on 18JUL04.
Per instructions...
Take down db, unmount all ocfs drives, use ' tuneocfs -F -S 100G /dev/emcpowere1 '
Supposedly this should work, but I get get....
The size specified, 100G, is larger than the device size, 59G.
Aborting.

Can OCFS and GFS co-exist on the same RHEL 3 RAC node??
Dear Experts,
One of our client wants to use OCFS for their 9i RAC(2 node) on RHEL3 and
also use GFS on the nodes. Would there be any issues using OCFS for Oracle
9i RAC and using GFS for failing over things like print services on the same
node? Has this been tested? I know these are competing products and
OCFS 2.0is not an option now for the client. They need GFS for their
custom apps.
Any ideas

Disappointing Performance Using 9i RAC with OCFS on Linux
Wim,
Thanks for your prompt response on this. The tpmC figures look very
impressive, and tpmC is read intensive.
I had already read note 236679.1 "Comparing Performance Between RAW IO
vs OCFS vs EXT2/3" which I guess is the article to which you are
referring; it made me suspect that the poor performance was due to the
lack of an OS IO cache but I wasn't sure.

Multiple OCFS intances in the same LAN
Hi,
is it possible and safe to use more than one RAC-Cluster using OCFS in the same LAN?
I'm considering to following setup: a 2-node production and a 2-node test system, the production data is stored in an EMC Symmetrix and for the test-system the production data is copied once to a BCV disk internally. This will give me an new independant copy of the production disk with the same contents,

OCFS error
Hi,
Before I describe the problem, I'll describe my environment. This is a
development environment built over 1.5 yrs ago:
* We have a 2 node Oracle RAC Cluster.
* built on two Dell PowerEdge 1850 Servers (Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.20GHz)
* OS is RHEL3 U3
* Kernel 2.4.21-20.ELsmp
* these 2 servers are attached to an EMC AX100 SAN via fibre channel
* HBA (QLogic QLA6312 PCI to Fibre

OCFS performance numbers with and without PowerPath
I was curious if someone on this list has performance numbers with and
without PowerPath 3.0.3 on RH AS 2.1 Oracle 9i RAC systems with OCFS. I know
that there were some concerns with PowerPath intercepting IO's and slowing
performance related to OCFS. Appreciate your feedback.
