How to use ZFS volume
Hi, I want to use Samba with ZFS volume, although I know 3.0.25c dose not work with ZFS volume. And I found modules/vfs_zfsacl.c on Samba-3.0.26. ( http://viewcvs.samba.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/branches/SAMBA_3_0_26/source/modules/ ) But I can't find samba-3.0.26.tar.gz on samba.org. So, I have two question. 1. Best hardware
Hi all, I am currently planning a new home file server on a gigabit network that will be utilizing ZFS (on SXDE). The files will be shared via samba as I have a mixed OS environment. The controller card I will be using is the SuperMicro SAT2-MV8 133MHz PCI-X card. I have two options for CPUs/motherboards: AMD Athlon64 3000+ (64 bit) DFI LanParty UT 250gb (NForce 3 based) motherboard 32 bit

Confused about prerequisites for ZFS to work
I''m hoping to get some general clues about what all is required to get an experiment going with zfs. I''ve managed to install osol-11 in a vmware on windowsXP host from a recent *.iso. I''m following along with Simon''s blog showing how to set up ZFS. I''m newbie with both ZFS and Solaris but the instructions seem pretty clear. However I''m

Issue with Crossbow on VirtualBox
Team, We are trying to install Crossbow on VirtualBox. Siva first tried it on Linux and reported it in Hyderabad Open Solaris User Group alias. http://opensolaris.org/os/project/hosug/ Today both of us tried it on VirtualBox running on OpenSolaris. Oracle database on zfs
Hi, I am wondering if there is a guideline on how to configure ZFS on a server with Oracle database? We are experiencing some slowness on writes to ZFS filesystem. It take about 530ms to write a 2k data. We are running Solaris 10 u5 127127-11 and the back-end storage is a RAID5 EMC EMX. This is a small database with about 18gb storage allocated. Is there a tunable parameters that we can apply to

Solaris 10 HVM on Intel VT?
Can I run 8/07 fully virtualised on an Intel VT CPU (with a Linux Dom0)? I gave up on 11/06 because of real mode problems. If not, does anyone have an estimate of when this might be possible, if at all? Thanks - Evan

Q. virsh shutdown for a Solaris HVM guest domain
Hi, I''ve installed Solaris 10 u4 as a hardware virtual machine guest domain on SXDE 1/08 (aka Nevada b79b) which was fine, i.e. after the virt-install the domain was fine. However when I went to shutdown the domain I issued "virsh shutdown solarisHVM" which appeared to immediately terminate the guest domain. Note, I also have a paravirtualized domain

virt-install fails on SXDE build 87
Hi. I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2/dual core processor and 2 gigs of ram running SXDE/87 (as far as I can tell, it''s on a ufs filesystem, not zfs). I''m attempting to install Vista from cd and the virt-install command fails with the same error regardless of what I do. I''m running this from my user (not root) account. I''m using qemu-img to create my hard drive images.

? Removing a disk from a ZFS Storage Pool
Hi my understanding is that you cannot remove a disk from a ZFS storage pool once you have added it...but I also think I saw an email from Jeff B saying that the ability to depopulate a disk so that it can be removed is being worked on....or was I dreaming ? What is the status of this ? Thanks Tim -- Signature Tim Thomas Staff Engineer Storage Systems Product Group

Fileserver performance tests
Hi all, i want to replace a bunch of Apple Xserves with Xraids and HFS+ (brr) by Sun x4200 with SAS-Jbods and ZFS. The application will be the Helios UB+ fileserver suite. How are you getting your Vista and XP VMs to work?
I''m not having much luck getting either a Vista or XP VM up and running. XP: I''ve created an ISO from my WinXP SP 1a CD. The VM seems to be created fine. It boots then installs the OS. On the second setup boot after copying over the OS files, it brings up a box that says: The file ''asms'' on WindowsXP Home Edition Service Pack 1 CD is needed. Then wants

Possible ZFS Bug - Causes OpenSolaris Crash
I?d like to report the ZFS related crash/bug described below. How do I go about reporting the crash and what additional information is needed? I?m using my own very simple test app that creates numerous directories and files of randomly generated data. I have run the test app on two machines, both 64 bit. OpenSolaris crashes a few minutes after starting my test app. The crash has occurred on

ZFS ACLs/Samba integration
I''m currently prototyping a Solaris file server that will dish out user home directories and group project directories via NFSv4 and Samba. I have samba configured and integrated into our local active directory, with ACL mapping working. I''m a little confused as to the behavior of the ZFS ACL though. on a brand-new filesystem, touching a file results in: -rw-r--r-- 1 root

SMC Webconsole 3.1 and ZFS Administration 1.0 - stacktraces in snv_b89
I''ve installed SXDE (snv_89) and found that the web console only listens on https://localhost:6789/ now, and the module for ZFS admin doesn''t work. When I open the link, the left frame lists a stacktrace (below) and the right frame is plain empty. Any suggestions? I tried substituting different SUNWzfsgr and SUNWzfsgu packages from older Solarises (x86/sparc, snv_77/84/89,

New QEMU 0.9.1 Solaris 10 Packages Available
All, I''ve gone ahead and built the latest QEMU as a package. The package is in the usual spot, at http://www.thoughtwave.com/emulators.html This is the 20080113 CVS head, built for x86 and sparc. Simply install the most recent package, add /opt/thoughtwave/qemu/bin to your path, and the wrapper scripts there will automagically run the right binaries for your architecture. Have fun

[Dragon Age Origins] Official DLCs "Unable to load area"
I have a Steam version of DAO + Awakening and have had no troubles with it up until now when I've bought some DLCs from official bioware store. For any DLC I bought I'm getting "Unable to load area" error right after character creation or importing (or, in case of "Leliana's song" --- right after "Play" is pressed in "Other campaigns" menu). Crossbow integration with Solaris 10/08
Hi, >From what I have read, the create-vnic feature in dladm is only available within the context of crossbow...? Specifically, what I am wondering is whether it is at all possible to successfully install crossbow on top of Sun''s "Standard/sunsolve supported" Solaris 10/08 rather than OpenSolaris, per. Se.... Is this at all feasible? Many thanks in advance.. Best
