Uninstalling GAG Boot Manager
Dear friends: New to Centos, DVD version 4.4. Fabulous distro, rich in features, applications, very stable and robust. My first install failed to boot up (after rebooting, switching in Bios from CD/DVD to hard drive. This was probably because I chose to install the Grub boot loader in MBR. I got the error message: GRUB, Stage 2 Loading... But it never loaded up. Nothing happened. So, I

Can't boot Centos6 ext4 partition from GAG bootloader
Have just installed Centos-6 from a Linux Format DVD. The install went smoothly, although the installer inisisted that the root partition had to be formatted ext4. When my GAG boot loader tried to boot from that root partition, it was unable do so. Elsewhere I read that GAG cannot boot from an ext4 parititon. I there any way tp persuade Centos-6 to use an ext3 root partition? --

Dear friends: I've been trying for some time to install my copy of Word97 (which I own, having purchased it directly from Microsoft with my own license number). I have tried the latest Wine 0.9.14. To do this, I first UNinstalled version 0. 9.1-4 (PCLINUXOS), then installed the new wine from source. The source install asked me to install a number of font files, which I did (bison,

RPMS's -- Standalone or From Sources?
Dear friends: [Using the Centos 4.4 DVD) I will spend the next few days reading the documentation for Centos/RedHat. But meanwhile, I would like, while reading it, to listen to my favorite radio programs which require RealPlayer. So, my question is simply: should I download the RealPlayer RPM from www.real.com or should I download it from an rpm repository source? While I am at, what about

Java installs but won't play
Dear friends: I installed Sun's Java manually by downloading their Red Hat RPM. I followed instructions and the install came off fine (Done!), but when I try to play it, it won't work. I imagine that I probably need to create a symbolic link to the plugin. Here is the info: [sher at localhost ~]$ whereis java java: /usr/bin/java /etc/java /usr/lib/java /usr/share/java [sher at

Dear friends: Using Centos 5. I have two physical drives. During install, I made sure to check hdb as well as hda. Both were listed as partitions (which is correct). But my fstab file does not show hdb. How do I make sure that hdb has been formatted and is part of my file system. If hdb is not formatted, how do I format it, please. Sorry for the question. seatools for DOS
I downloaded the 'seatools for DOS' diskette creator on seagate website. it's a windows program that creates the diskette; so a floppy disk must be present in the drive. running the program is ok, but creating the diskette fails, it says "the current diskette format not valid". while the diskette is blank, vfat, mounted and linked to a: in wine; so everything seems to be ok.

After uninstalling and reinstalling, no Wine folders
Originally installed Wine [9.33] from the Ubuntu repository. After adding the WineHQ repository, I was upgraded to 9.49. Since it was an upgrade, the folders installed by 9.33 were retained in place of those 9.49 would have installed if it were the first installation. I decided to make my installation more "up-to-date" by uninstalling and reinstalling. I've uninstalled and

Syslinux 1.75, LEAF Bering 1.2, Compaq 2266
I have been using the LEAF Bering firewall for a year or so. It boots with Syslinux 1.75. But Bering is too large for a 1440KB floppy, so it formats the diskette as 1680KB. Recently I found a small Compaq 2266 box to replace a larger Compaq 7170 to run the firewall. But when I try to boot the Bering diskette on the 2266 I get the following message: Loading Linux ............ Boot failed:
