creating a station from the ground up
Hi bob, Well - the upload is the important number when you are talking about delivering to other people. You could quite easily run icecast on a VPS (virtual private server) - it would certainly cost you to do this. I work for a streaming media company though, and could help you set up a station - if you're interested - please e-mail me directly - not through the mailing list. Thanks,

creating a station from the ground up
Hi Bob, Well, if you plan to do it from home - it's unlikely you'll be able to support more than 3 people on a domestic internet connection, broadcasting at 128kbps.....not sure what you have, connectivity wise there. Can you run a speedtest? http://speedtest.net Regards, William On Wed, May 5, 2010 at 8:26 PM, Bob Cavanaugh <bobdavcav at comcast.net> wrote: > Hi William,

creating a station from the ground up
Hey all, I am looking to start my own station, but don't know where do start. I have edcast, so will use that to originate my programs. However, how do I set up a server to broadcast to? Thanks. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: <http://lists.xiph.org/pipermail/icecast/attachments/20100505/edb6e275/attachment.htm>

tools for broadcasting
Hi all, I'm sending this to both lists because I want to know what both sides of the conversation think about this. For those of you on the icecast list, can I have a recommendation on the right tool to broadcast with? If you like, I'll send you my prerecorded shows, just tell me what the best way to send those is. For the audacity list now, would it be possible to develop a broadcasting

How to create a list of usernames and passwords request?
How I can create a list of usernames and passwords to restrict users to connect to listen to the broadcast? What I mean is that I do not want my transmission to be listened just by anyone. I want that for they can listen to the transmission they need to enter a user name and a password. Regards -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

slightly offtopic, uninstalling edcast
Hi all, I have edcast on my computer, but I didn't check the box to install the mp3 encoder, and it is not installing correctly after it has been deleted from the location it is installed in. It doesn't show up in the control panel list, so can't do anything about it there. How do I completely remove edcast from my machine and start over? -------------- next part -------------- An

Icecast2 Station with multiple scheduled DJs?
At WXBH-LP we had a similar need, and we solved it using mpd (music player daemon) to coordinate our feed to icecast. mpd is a music player (supporting playlists, etc.) originally designed for local network streaming, but it has several attributes that make it suitable for other things: * Items in its playlists can be local audio files or remote streams (e.g. DJ streams). * It

still having problems with edcast
Ok all, I have deleted the edcast folder on my machine and reinstalled edcast. However, I can't get the mp3 encoder to install. Tim said that it should ask if you want the encoder, and I thought I selected it under the select components to install, but it isn't installing. Two additional things are happening, 1. When I open edcast, I don't see anything in the dropdown lists.

Icecast2 Source Tutorial Poor man's basic Icecast source setup instructions. Everything needed to set up a basic streaming system without the mess. This tutorial assumes you've successfully setup icecast2 for this. This tutorial also assumes you've got audio files to use to stream to iceca= st2. You will also need a method seperate from your source computer to tune-in t= o the stream

Regarding edcast with icecast2.4
Hello all. So I just thought I would come in here and ask you all a couple of questions regarding edcast. First off let me tell you my situation. I am managing a radio station and my icecast server the way I have it set up the source of which the broadcaster connects to has to have a username and password for a mount point that is being passed through the server. Basically these are all

Icecast2 Station with multiple scheduled DJs?
I have been playing with Icecast only for a couple of days, and I am trying to figure out how to do something. I want a listener to have to only deal with one stream, but I want to be able to switch the source of that stream between multiple sources (DJs). The core idea is that the listener only deals with /live.mp3 while in the background I can problematically switch between a series of live

Re: The LPBN radio station.
Hi: I really liked the music on your 32kbps stream. That is what I listened to. It is very high quality low bandwidth. You must have a recording studio as well as the station. The website for the Linux Public Broadcasting Network is www.lpbn.org I'll create a mailing list for radio on LPBN later tonight so our emails don't disrupte the kind folks at icecast. Just a note, on Sunday I

Idea to possibly improve flac?
I'd like to express a few things whilst I have the ear atleast a few folks. There once was a program called oddcast, and then edcast that you could use on linux to broadcast an OggFLAC encoded audio stream from jack. Sounds like something many folks would be interested in doing, but I haven't heard to much of a peep about it. At any rate, it had a a few issues legally and technical

clustering on Trinary data
Dear all, I have a data matrix with 7 independent variables, and each of them is a trinary variable ( - 1, 0 , 1), and I would like to know what kinds of R package or method I should use to perform the clustering. Thanks for any comment or suggestion. -- Lam C. Tsoi (Alex) Medical University of South Carolina [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Problem with SSL
My radio is running on port 8080, but now I would like to move it to port 8443 (*removed 8080*), and add SSL. I am using Icecast 2.4.4., windows 10 and Edcast Standalone plugin. Edcast Standalone connects without problems if I set it to port 8080. It works http://ip:8080/stream.mp3 and https://ip:8443/stream.mp3 The problem is that it shows the same number of listeners on both connections. If I
