CPU load
Hello, >From time to time my computer freezes. I noticed it freezed when i transcoded from mp3 to ogg, with mp32ogg. Then later I noticed it freezed too when I encoded from wav to ogg with oggenc. When I use mp32ogg or oggenc, the CPU load is 99% during the process and the computer freezes after 10 minutes. But, I tried to load the CPU and bzip2 a large file during 30 minutes, but the

Best quality setting for mp3 transcoded old radio shows
Hi, I have a bunch of old radio programs (mystery/drama shows, not music) encoded at 32 kbit (and some 48kbit) mp3 (mono). I want to reencode them in ogg and make them available over gnutella. My question is this. What is the best quality level (-q) for transcoding them. I want to preserve quality, but I want to be sensitive to the many modem based gnutella users. I also want to to

theora video plugin ? videolan plugin?
hi, I'm Alexander a just a question ? is there a reason why there shouldn't be a web player for theora in Mozilla FireFox ? or Internet explorer ? I'm thinking to compile videolan player with theora support only and enable the web plugin interface, it would replace the cortado player and possibly provide a better alternative to flash video plugin in linux when somebody starts a

Ruby on Rails: Up and Running: Rough Cuts Version
Anyone read the rough cuts of this book? I''m interested in checking it out because Bruce Tate''s work is always great. How does it compare to the agile books (2nd edition) in terms of timeliness, difficulty, etc. Thanks! Nathan -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

rough sketch of revised patching infrastructure
Here's the new patching patch. It compiles, but it doesn't, you know, boot, as such. The basic idea is to make the incremental cost of patching a new hook as small as possible. If a backend wants pure default patch handling, then it can simply call paravirt_patcher with a NULL patch table; this will end up patching calls to be direct calls to the paravirt op, unless the op is NULL or

Dynamix 650 VA USB - broken, have rough fix
Like Glen Ogilvie, I got a newer Dynamix 650 VA with USB connection, and was having trouble getting NUT to communicate with it. This appears to be the UPS that megatec_usb was built for - Vendor: 0x0001, Product: 0x0000, uses Megatec's software, has USB chip attached to internal serial lines, and has terrible USB implementation with fake HID tables. But megatec_usb would consistently fail.

Some rough edges with Samba-3.0.0beta1
Hi, I am testing Samba-3.0.0.beta1, which we will use to migrate our Win2000 domain ( at last ;) ) * things done: - Configured LDAP + permissions - Configured Samba. pdbedit -a already creates users in LDAP ( objectclass: account; objectclass: sambaSamAccount ) * observed problems: ( might be due to some error on my part, please explain in that case ) idmap backend =

How do I get a rough quick utility plot of a time series?
The following is an R run showing that it has read a 2000 point time series having two values at each time. What is the simplest way to plot the data? It seems like the whatever plot routine should be able to make a rough utility plot from just the TS matrix. Note that I am already using spec.pgram() for a periodogram, but I want a rough utility plot before that. > dta <-

oggdropXPd.exe crashes when resampling is activated
I need to encode a WAV to OGG but must resample to 22050 samples per second, but can't do that with oggdropXPd.exe. The application always crashes. What I do is: Start oggdropXPd.exe. Right-click on fish, choosing 'Encoding Options'. Under Advanced Options, I set Re-sample to 22050 samples per second. Click 'Accept'. Drag WAV on fish. In the directory where the WAV originates,

Any opinions on the Rails [Rough Cuts] books from Safari
Either - Ruby on Rails: Up and Running or Rails Cookbook I''ve heard so many negative things about Safari pdf''s and the whole program I''d like to get some feedback. I have AWDWR(2nd edition), RubyforRails(Manning), Programming Ruby(2nd edition), so I''m not even sure I actually need another book but maybe the approach or content is somewhat uniuqe. TIA Stuart

Vorbisgain in OggDropPXd
Hi (hope I am in the right mailing list!) I really can't figure out how to use Vorbisgain in OggdropXPd - it doesn't seem to work so far. Can Someone pls. explain detailed (steps) what to do when using Vorbisgain in OggdropXPd? I understand the settings for Vorbisgain are in "decoding options"... why? What I really want is the function of Mp3Gain on Ogg-files, and I thought

Multi-channel support
Hi All, Are multi-channel (more than 2) formats fully supported in the OggVorbis specification ? I couldn't find any information about multi-channel support on xiph.org. I've used 'oggdropXPd' to encode a 5.1 wavefile and the Xiph OggVorbis libraries (vorbisfile.dll) to decode the file successfully, however the order of the channel interleaving is different to the original wave

Ruby at O''Reilly Rough Cuts
Not sure if this is old news or not, but it would appear that both the Ruby Cookbook and a Rails book are now available for purchase at O''Reilly Rough Cuts (something akin to PragProg''s beta book program): http://rubyurl.com/nHz http://my.safaribooksonline.com/?mode=roughcuts&srchtext=ROUGHCUTS I haven''t tried them yet, but it definitely seems worth checking out.
