Smarter flac / samba VFS module possible?
I'm not sure Bery (the author) is subscribed here; he's probably the best one to ask first. Accessing files via symlink, does client see a difference?
I have an ancient device, several actually, called an Audiotron that I use Samba for to access media files. Now, I realize these are old and finicky devices. For ease of management, I keep my media files separated into 4.5GB directories (easy to burn to DVD) and then I have a script that goes into each of those directories and creates one big directory full of symlinks pointing into each

Need a little help with Samba 3.5.5 on FreeNAS 7.2.5543
Good afternoon all. I have an odd problem that has me stumped and I'm hoping someone here may be able to help. Recently I switched from a Gentoo Linux based OS to FreeNAS. The version of Samba running on FreeNAS is 3.5.5 (and was the same under Linux). I mainly use my FreeNAS/Samba box to share MP3 files to an Audiotron. One of the files is the Turtle Beach radio file, radio_tr.txt. When I was

Stand alone media player supporting Ogg ?
1. Anyone know of an Ogg playing media player, similar to the Netgear MP101 or the Voyetra AudioTron-100 (neither of which play ogg) ? I need something that will display and play/stream ogg audio files stored on the PC, without having to use a tv as the viewer. I looked on the wiki but didn't find anything. If they don't use a tv they don't play ogg, so far anyway. Voyetra

Can I STOP decoding at an exact sample?
Hi guys, Thanks Matt for your prompt response about the C++ problem, its working great now! Again for my "virtual cdplayer", I am wondering if its possible to stop decoding within a large file, at the end of an exact sample? ie. I wish to play a song in the middle of a flac'd cd. Using the file decoder, I can seek to the start of the track(index 01 of the cds TOC), but I then want

xmms-flac security update breaks XMMS' flac-playing ability
Hello, First post to this group. I've been searching for about a week now to find anyone who can solve this problem or point me to the solution. I've been a happy xmms-flac user for 4 years until this week when some new FLAC security updates came along and completely stopped XMMS from playing FLACs on my PC. This is most irritating as I have over 3,500 CDs ripped and FLAC'd in

Sluggish samba...no change
Thanks to those who responded to my previous post. I have tried all suggestions and found no change. A quick review: Samba 3.0.11, OpenBSD 3.6, hub connected net, no routers or firewalls involved. An Audiotron music box and a WindowsXP machine in addition to the OpenBSD box. And the issues were the same when Samba 2.x and OBSD 3.4 were installed. Windows media player on the XP box plays

Improving string concatenation
Bad choice of words I'm afraid. What I'm ultimately pushing for is a feature request. To allow string concatenation with '+' by default. Sure I can write my own string addition function (like the example I posted previously) but I use it so often that I end up putting it in every script I write. It is ultimately a matter of readability and syntactic sugar I guess. As an example, I

Sluggish Samba
Hi, I took the plunge and installed the latest version of OpenBSD 3.6 and SAMBA 3.0.11 (this because I found a patch for the OBSD ports tree). So I now have all that up and running. Both my XP box and my Audiotron can get to the SAMBA shares. I did this upgrade because the problem I'm about to describe is exactly the same as before I upgraded from 3.4 OBSD, 2.x Samba. I know others

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are using a NAS (Network Attached Storage) device please do=20 NOT use this Firmware. The last known good version for NAS device Support was: 3.1.1. Sorry about this. http://www.turtlebeach.com/support/index.php?View=3dentry&EntryID=3d11411639= 9 Since the last update was 2004, I wonder what it's CIFS client is as=20 well...oh well, the above might be a start.

[PATCH] xfstests: remove recursive include in filter.btrfs
Not sure how this happened, but filter.btrfs including itself leads to immense sadness for any file that includes it. Archiving CDs w/ Flac on Linux (and subsequent re-encoding)
This must be possible; not sure how to do it yet. :) After facing the thought of going through my cd collection for a 3rd time for re-encoding, it occurred to me that I should just flac the whole CD and add a cue sheet, and then back up to DVDs. That way -next- time I need to re-encode to any format, I can handle ~1/20th the discs, compared to my whole cd collection. :) Wondering if

Questions regarding journal replay
Today, I had to uncleanly shutdown one of our machines due to an error in 2.6.28.3. Durin the boot sequence, the ext4 partition /home experienced a journal replay. /home looks like this: /dev/mapper/volg1-logv1 on /home type ext4 (rw,noexec,nodev,noatime,errors=remount-ro) Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/mapper/volg1-logv1 2,4T 1,4T 1022G 58% /home Filesystem

[PATCH] use rcu_barrier() to wait for bdev puts at unmount
Doing this would reliably fail with -EBUSY for me: # mount /dev/sdb2 /mnt/scratch; umount /mnt/scratch; mkfs.btrfs -f /dev/sdb2 ... unable to open /dev/sdb2: Device or resource busy because mkfs.btrfs tries to open the device O_EXCL, and somebody still has it. Using systemtap to track bdev gets & puts shows a kworker thread doing a blkdev put after mkfs attempts a get; this is left over

Backup - suggestions needed....
Linux RH 7.3, Samba 2.2.7a NT 4.0 SP6 - Backup Exec 8.5 The linux box is running the Backup Exec client for Unix ('http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/192093.htm') Occasionally, when doing a backup the entire linux system freezes. I have to do a hard reboot without a shutdown, etc. There is 40 plus gigs on the backup, so I dont think a tar and copy would be bery efficient. I am
