Speex, what container?
But using the ACM codec I just need to put the speex content into the wave file data chunk and then windows will play it? Speex, what container?
But is there any sound player for windows that plays speex in an ogg container? One more question, besides the source code found in the speex site (like speexenc.c) can you tell me where to find source code developed in C++ (using object oriented programing) that makes it easier to write ogg files with speex content? ACM Format Tag for Speex Audio
Hi, As a potential user of the Speex ACMs and DirectShow filters to come I am also curious about how many ACM codecs for Speex there are under development right now. Also, the WAVEFORMATEX structure must be planned so that it is extensible, with backward-compatibility, without having to ring back Microsoft for further WAVE_FORMAT tags. For instance, it is a good idea to put a flexible sub-format

Speex ACM no longer Beta (Houston, we have a release!)
Christian, I have successfully integrated your ACM codec in our applications, but I have run into one minor issue. In a code comment you imply that fmtnotice is an optional part of the WAVEFORMATEX extra data. I tried to play a file that had no fmtnotice but Windows did not recognize it as valid and did not play the audio. Your work is very much appreciated here and we are anxiously awaiting

Is there any speex plugin for windows media player?
> While on the subject of plug-ins, has anyone written a Speex plug-in > for the Goldwave audio editor? There is an ACM codec for I/O of WAVE files encoded in Speex. ( www.openacm.org ) But there is no plugin to load or save Vorbis Speex files natively, as far as I know. Christian <p>--- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage:

ACM work
Hi (again), I started to work on an ACM (Audio Compression Manager) for FLAC. I currently only have the canvas. The encoding/decoding is not done yet. So it's completely useless. But since the canvas is the harder thing to start, here it is. (just in case I don't have time to continue) http://mukoli.free.fr/flac-ACM.v0.1.0.zip

ACM Format Tag for Speex Audio
My arrangement for a Speex format tag was actually accidental. I was asking what would be involved and instead of an answer, I got a format tag. Since there is only one functional Speex ACM codec available as far as I know, it should use the official format tag. I will be glad to modify our applications to conform to this de-facto standard. Re: FLAC format
Hi, >That's what I wanted to say a month ago. Mr. Blum, I'm really sorry for misunderstanding you. My mistake. I choose an ACM codec because it's the only option that works on every Windows Platform, and since the DirectShow has a generic wrapper that allows it to use ACM codecs, it appeared a good idea. I didn't note that the file format was going to be a problem. But I think

Speex ACM codec released on www.openacm.org
I am glad to announce the BETA release of the Speex ACM codec. It is based on the Speex 1.0.1 codec release. An ACM codec enables Windows to create and play back WAVE files containing Speex content. It might also be useful for use with Netmeeting (after some registry hacking. Not tested yet.). I also provide a portable playback tool (speexdec_wav) that handles both the Ogg and WAVE containers.

Speex ACM no longer Beta (Houston, we have arelease!)
Prior to having your ACM codec, I was manually compressing Speex audio and writing it into one stream of an AVI file. To be able to use your codec for playback, I simply appended your WAVEFORMATEX extra data (the extra fields in SPEEXWAVEFORMAT) to the audio format. In looking at your code trying to determine how to fill in that data, it looked like the fmtnotice was optional. Is this truly the

FLAC format
HI Josh, I'm starting now to compile the ACM codec. I don't know how long it will take, since I do it in my free time, but I guess it will not take to long. About Mark Powell's comment, with an ACM codec there will be a lot of Windows GUIs for FLAC. I'm writing this message to talk about the FLAC format. The GUIs for the Audio Codec Manager, including Winamp and Windows Media

Yep, that's the bad news, you need an ID from Microsoft to make sure this ID is only used for FLAC. But since it's a 16 bits value, you can probably put anything randomly (only few are reserved). And I don't think it's illegal to use a number like that. Ingo Ralf Blum wrote: >>WAVEFORMATEX >>yes, that's the way to know what the codec does. >>But no

ACM Format Tag for Speex Audio
I have arranged for an official Speex ACM format tag from Microsoft (see below). Feel free to use this in any ACM codec work. Low bitrate was the design goal, not Netmeeting compatibility ;) Padding loss occurs because Speex encodes frames that do not end on byte boundaries. If you force each Speex frame to be byte

Speex, what container?
I'm going to use speex to compress sound that was record from a sound board. What container should I use so it will be able to play in some sound player available for windows, ogg or wave? If I choose to use wav container I simple have to put the speex stream into the data chunk of the wave file? I heard that there is a codec to put speex in a wav file so it can be played in windows media

1.0.3 in ACM soon
I have started to update the ACM codec to Speex 1.0.3. Before a release I will also address some issues/bugs that have been brought to my attention. Following that I will try to port that code to PocketPC, making use of the unstable 1.1.3 version as integer build. There is probably little or no need for continuing work on my own integer version (called "Sphinx") Christian <p>---

Hi, I managed to get the codec into netmeeting. Unfortunately it doesn't properly work. I tried to talk vie net, but only erranous packets are decoded. Did I possibly register the codec wiht incorrecxt parameters or is this a problem of the acm codec? bye, D A --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from
