why is my "nmbd" confused about network interfaces?
The only thing related to 'addresses' in my /etc/samba/smb.conf file is a "hosts allow": hosts allow = 192.168.3.0/24 127.1 I'm going to ignore the 'local hosts case, as if I solve the other, the localhost case may get solved by inference. I thought the 'hosts allow' would allow any host on the local 192.168.3.0/24 subnet. The hosts have no problems

nmb
I am having trouble starting my nmb. I have tried to start it a number of times. I tried via swat, using the shell, and it is set up to automatically start with smb. It fails to shut down and start each time. I'm very new at this, and don't have the trouble-shooting skills yet. Thanks, Anna

nmb bug
I had disabled one of multiple interfaces a few days ago using ifconfig eth1 down. When I went to restart samba, nmbd wouldn't come up and gave absolutely no indication of why. The only way to have figured this out (other than removing options from smb.conf one at a time) would have been to use the debugger. So, I learned that smbd and nmbd will ALWAYS come up in daemon mode whether or not

Repeating entries in log.nmb and log.smb
I'm running Samba on my Sun ultra 1 with Solaris 2.6 and have noticed that my log.nmb file is growing tremendously. In addition, my log.smb is also growing but not quite as fast. The log.nmb has the following entries repeating every few seconds. Since 3/18/99, my log.nmb file has grown to be 22mb. [1999/06/14 09:13:14, 1] nmbd/nmbd.c:(672) Netbios nameserver version 2.0.0 started.

nmb errors overflowing onto console
Hello everyone, I have a curious problem that seemingly came out of nowhere. After searching through the archives, I see that I am not the first to discover this problem, but so far, no solution has been found. In June 99, Mark Drummond mentioned a similar problem. Recently, I started seeing nmbd errors on the console. A little poking around revealed a log file full of these errors. Below is a

NMB problems
Hello, I am having some trouble with NMB. My linux box doesn't appear in the network neighbourhood (win 98). In spite of this, I can still access the linux shared directory. I have tried almost everything and lately I have been seeing this message in the log.nmb file: [2000/03/03 17:11:11, 1] nmbd/nmbd.c:main(672) Netbios nameserver version 2.0.3 started.
