Should Join Discussion - Fwd: [whatwg] Give guidance about RFC 4281 codecs parameter
Hello,
You guys might want to join this discussion. (And maybe some others too.)
On the WhatWG mailing list, there's been a fury of e-mails about
adding a <video> element to HTML5. They're talking about codecs and
containers now. It might be helpful to have your representatives
there. And help shape things.
See ya

Chris DiBona's passing comment on Theora + Youtube on the WhatWG list
Chris DiBona made an odd comment regarding Theora on the WhatWG list.
I am explicitly not calling for people to go sign up over there and
complain. Google has done many good things for open video, and I'm
sure they will continue to do so in the future.
I thought the comparison I did for my response would be interesting to
other people here:

Dear Sir/s,
As I have mentioned in my previous email, is there a way to recover or bring back to life a crashed Centos OS after doing a Hard Driver repartition or resizing?
Thanks.

CentOS 6.4 tcp_fatretrans_alert causes panic
Hi all,
Our kernel is 2.6.32-358.14.1.x86_64, recently dozens of them panicked,
since it's been OK for a long time and the problem emerged all of a sudden,
I'm not sure if an upgrade caused this problem. Here's what I got from
backtracing:

Http adaptive streaming for html5
There has been some light talk of http adaptive streaming support for
html5 but I wanted to ensure that is making progress and get feedback
from Mozilla video tag developers and theora community members before
pushing the html5 spec to include the necessary information.
I think we will want to target near zero server side configuration. The
server should just have to support normal http

FireFox and Plugins
While doing a browser fingerprinting survey, I was quite surprised to
see I actually have a FireFox plugin installed.
The culprit is
/usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins/librhythmbox-itms-detection-plugin.so
It appears that whoever maintains the rhythmbox RPM has chosen not to
package the browser plugin separately like it probably should be. So if
I have the rhythmbox RPM installed, I have the plugin.

W3C Video on the Web Workshop
List,
The W3C will host a workshop to discuss video on the Web in 12-13
December 2007, San Jose, California. I think it's important that
someone from Xiph, or an enthusiastic fan of Theora would participate.
There is no participation fee and you do not need to be a W3C member
to participate, so if you are in the area why not consider going? You
only have to register to participate.

This is a sad day for interoperability in the Web
Today, Adobe Systems Incorporated announced[1] that they will extend
their Flash platform to support the proprietary H.264 and HE-AAC
formats.
The Xiph.Org Foundation has previously contacted Adobe to consider
extending Flash to support the Open Media formats Vorbis, Theora, and
Speex. Adobe developers replied by stating it would be unwise as it
would increase the file size of the Flash Player,

Fwd: [whatwg] Cue points in media elements
Hi,
this is an email from the HTML5 standardisation group, which I thought
would be very interesting to Annodex and Xiph people.
I do not know enough about the cue points that he is talking about to
know how much should be done in html/javascript and how much directly
in the media.
But I found the need for cue points interesting. Maybe someone here
has an answer to Brian on how it could work or

using Kate for WebVTT encapsulation
(sending this publicly so the discussion about this is in the open)
Hi OggK, all,
OggK, you've probably seen that the bug in Firefox for adding Kate
support has been closed as WONTFIX:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481529
I've just posted a reply there mentioning how I envisage in-band
WebVTT support to be provided through Kate. I want to ask your
opinion.
In case you

Theora patent question
Does the reason Theora is relatively safe from patent infringement
lawsuit have more to do with it actually not being encumbered, or is
it because its use is decentralized?
For example, FreeType is not patent-free, nor is Linux, yet they
succeed because on the one hand, they are open source, and those who
maintain them do not guarantee anything regarding patents, it is up to
each individual user

7.3 sources ???
Looking at http://vault.centos.org/ and not seeing them.
I need to rebuild krb5
At git.centos.org I can get the spec file, patches, etc. but the source
are not there.
In particular it looks like I need krb5-1.14.1-pdfs.tar which isn't at
the MIT upstream that I can see and
nss_wrapper-0.0-20140204195100.git3d58327.tar.xz which from the date
*might* be in the 7.2 src.rpm - but since

very stable.
Do you know a simple software for that ?
An other part of my project is to eneable click-to-call from a web page, do
