getent returns HEX number instead of username
Not for all users but for some.
I'm using samba 3.0.20 running on Fedora Core 3. Security = ADS,
winbind works and getent passwd returns local unix accounts plus the
domain accounts as expected.
It also returns a lot of entries like:

Esquivel:/export/private/6811ff15281f4d19bdc:"/sbin/nologin"
I suspect these are accounts in a

Word 2000 on Wine
I keep hearing that Ian Schmidt figured out how to get Word 2000 to work
under Wine. Well, his domain comes up unknown and all references I have
seen on this subject hyperlink to his defunct URL.
Has anyone out there got Word 2000 installed on W2K to work under wine?
I'm using FreeBSD Codeweaver port but any success from anyone be it Red
Hat, Mandrake, etc would be appreciated.

Writing Reports from R in Microsoft Office Open XML format (follow-up)
Dear Duncan and other R users,
The department in which I work will soon make some decisions to
improve our reporting. Since I hope that our solution will support R
and Sweave-like functionality (otherwise it wouldn't be an
improvement....), I hope it's ok to repeat my question back from June
if there are any news on an odfWeave-like package for weaving
Microsoft Word documents? (in the

I am testing dovecot out on a test server running RHEL ES 3, I have
installed 0.99.14-1.1.el3 and 1.0-0_20.rc7.el3. This server is using
the mbox mailbox format, running sendmail, procmail, and using PAM to do
authentication to an LDAP server. I get varying results between the two
version.

installing Microsoft Office under wine
I have been unable to install Microsoft Office 2000 under wine on
several Fedora Linux machines. The problem seemed to start with the
June 2004 release of wine and has persisted for every version I have
tried up to and including the latest 12/01/2004 version.
I have tried both RPM install and compiling from source with similar
results.
I have one machine running the May 2004 wine that

problems installing MS Office on wine
I am attempting to install MS Office 2000 on a Fedora 3 system with the
latest 12/1/2004 wine
built from source.
I was getting multiple errors followed by the wine debugger aborting.
Based on information from the user group I have installed dcom98.exe
( by downloading dcom98.exe and running wine dcom98.exe )
This appeared to work , but produced a warning message ( newer version of

Samba and Window 2003
I am trying to find a good how-to on setting up samba to use Windows 2003
for authentication, if anyone knows of a good link let me know. I am using
RedHat ES 3 and our Windows is running in native mode with NT style
authentication allowed. I cant use ADS and Kerberos because the current
version of Kerberos on my RH server is 1.2.7 and from what I have read I
need 1.3+ in order for it to work

Samba and LDAP (eDirectory)
Hello all,
Can anyone help me with setting up SAMBA to do LDAP auth? Do you have
to extend the schema with samba attributes or can you just use the LDAP
as an authentication source only? Any information on this would be
greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Problems with menus in dvd-lab
Hi, I am having a problem with menus in DvdLab. (www.mediachance.com)
The application has the xp kind of menus with white background. I don't
have any other applications with menus like that, but my guess is that
it would happend the same with others. The problem is that the menu
opens white and only when I move the mouse over it the text appears.

does SMB run over DCOM ?
Hi all,
OPC is a standard that specifies a collection of DCOM interfaces
heavely used in the industrial automation domain.
I would like to access these OPC objects that run in Windows from Linux
computers, using the DCOM framework.
Instead of implementing DCOM from scratch for Linux, I was considering
'stealing' some code off the SAMBA project relating

Samba4 LDAP issues
I cannot add users to my server and after going through many google
searches and trying several things here is an issue I have found at
minimum a LDAP issue when comparing my primary and secondary domain
controllers. I do not know how to repair it and that is why I am
contacting the list. Below is the output of the comparison.

named pipe, dcom and samba4
Hi everyone,
after a classicupgrade from a samba3 domain to a samba4, I have a weird
issue related to DCOM and named pipes.
The switch to samba4 went fine and everything works perfectly except one
old software that uses Windows named pipes and DCOM for client-server
communication.
When trying to access the DCOM server the software fails. The failure
can be easily reproduced with a simple

Calculating & plotting a linear regression between two correlated variables
Hi,
I have a Community (COM) composed of 6 species: A, B, C, D, E & F.
The density of my Community is thus (Eq.1): dCOM = dA + dB + dC + dE + dF
I would like to calculate and plot a linear regression between the density
of each of my species and the density of the whole community (illustrating
how the density of each species varies with variations of the whole
community).
For example, I would

Wine identity for DCOM authentication
I have the following problem.
First the native Windows XP-XP setting:
I have a DCOM service on a remote XP workstation machine (The service
is OPC server simulator, but this is not relevant for my problem).
My (local) client application needs access to the DCOM service on the
(remote) server, and following the documentation which came with the
server and a lot of browsing, I managed to set it up

Using OLE DB Connections from Wine
Hi,
I'm trying to use Enterprise Architect under wine. According to their documentation it runs on "Codeweavers Crossover" so I believe it should also run under wine (it's listed as basically working in the application DB http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=6018 ( http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=6018 ) ).

Wine call graph; wineserver; the "big picture".
Hi,
I've been lurking for a while now with a view to starting work on wine -
specifically COM and DCOM. I know some people have started some work and
there might be some patent issues with COM at least - so maybe DCOM is a
better bet (I had the possibly niave idea of implementing COM via DCOM -
it would be almost transparent, slower but less "dangerous").
I've read most of the

DCOM graphics bug?
Hi!
I am trying to display a graphic using the dcom server and the dcom graphics
object. Works fine without the embedded graphics object, in it's own
windows, but if i use the embedded object (what I need to do) the colors are
gone. Graphics are always only black and white. Even in the DCOM examples
for VB the graphics are without color - is this a bug? Can I do anything
about it?
