Shutdown script not being run
I've got an odd problem. My server will not shutdown normally because
the AoE driver is not being shut down properly. While investigating the
problem, I found that the aoe script is apparently not being called for
shutdown. I have been able to duplicate this with a brand new test
script.
My test script is just a simple file that echos back the start or stop
command:
#!/bin/bash

Removing respawning process from inittab w/o killing it
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi list,
I need to remove an entry of inittab which is used to (re)spawn a process:
mydemon:2345:respawn:/usr/sbin/mydemon >/dev/null 2>&1
So, I would comment out that entry and reload init running ``telinit
q''. IIRC, this would lead to the currently running daemon being killed.
I don't want to /try/ whether I'm right, as

Are these steps for re-installing Gnome correct/safe?
My desktop environment has become a little chaotic, and, long story
short, I would like to uninstall KDE and Gnome, and then reinstall
Gnome. (I want to remove KDE for the time being because I just don't
think I want it taking up space on my hard drive).
The thing is, I don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater. For
instance, I want to make sure I don't lose settings in

Note that you can actually do 'telinit 3' and telinit 5' with systemd.

CentOS5 pam_mkhomedir
I have a problem creating homedirs on the fly. Since RHEL5 / CentOS5 you have to
use pam_oddjob_mkhomedir instead of pam_mkhomedir.
Everything is working (the homedir is created) but two things.
First on every logon I get the following error message, and I don't know how to
fix it:
org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name com.redhat.oddjob was not
provided by any .service files

FWD network from Asterisk through NAT
Hi there,
I'm trying to dial into the FWD network using Asterisk, though a NAT. The
sources I've read say that it's unconfirmed to work through a NAT, but I'm
wondering if anyone's done it anyway. So, anyone got a clue how to do this?

Move from FC6 to CentOS5
How difficult will it be to move from a server from FC6 to CentOS?
No X needed, it's a server.

Via C3 and CentOS5
Hi,
I have an Asus terminator C3 with 512Mb. It has a Via P3-800Mhz
CPU, with a VIA chipset. It's currently running FC6. I wanted to
wipe the machine and install CentOS5.
It boots from the CD to the linux prompt, then it fully loads
vmlinux, then starts initrd.img, and somewhere at that point it
reboots.
I have tried: noapic, noapm, noprobe. Same, somewhere during
initrd.img or at then

And something else, that previously eluded from my thoughts:my "notifyme" script,i.e the script that is executed at an ups.status="OB" event, is:

echo " No power, shutting down the system!" >> /root/upsLog
sleep 30

CentOS 7 - xfs shrink & expand
I'll try that...I was using instructions I found on the internet for
single-user/maintenance mode.?? From the grub screen you enter 'e' and
modify the linux16 line...etc.
Okay, I'll try that next.
Thanks Simon!

WAY Off topic here, but if anyone's in the Augusta, Georgia area and
wants to work as a web developer(css, html, flash, php, photoshop and
the other usual goodies), we've got a job opening.
If you like abuse, long hours, low pay, and lots of stress, we have

error -13 with smbopen
Using linux on both server and client.
I can run smbmount and all seems ok. But, when I try to use kfm to browse a
share, I get the following messages thousands of times in /var/log/messages
and things more or less hang up. I have to telinit 1 to get control of my
client machine.

centos5: Kopete and ICQ broken
Hi,
Kopete does not show any contact in ICQ...
Will there be fixes for this?
Or do I have to wait for kde-redhat to support centos5?
Thx

Bugzilla bugs: close ones waiting for feedback >3 months?
Hi All,
I've been going through the bug queue and there's a number that have been
waiting for reporter feedback for a long time (in one case 7+ months).
Would anyone consider it unduly harsh if I took an axe to the queue and
closed any bugs (ie the unconfirmed or WORKSFORME type) that have been
waiting for reporter feedback for more than, say, 3 months? (Unless
there's a documented

Heads up - symlinked GotoBLAS in F14
Hi,
I installed F14 on release, but was diquieted to note that my symlinked
GotoBLAS (http://cran.r-project.org/doc/manuals/R-admin.html#Shared-BLAS,
foot of paragraph) prevented R (compiled from source, no special configure
options) from loading - everything had been fine on F < 14. It seems that:
cat /selinux/booleans/allow_execstack
is 1 1 on my RHEL systems, but became (?) 0 0 in F14.
