However, Now I've got another problem: After the game starts, with the "splash-screen" showing, My screen turns black for a few seconds, is resized, then returns to the desktop with the following error: "Age of Empire III Has encountered an error and needs to be closed...."

I can't seem to get Age of Empires II to run after successful installation. I have created a new WINEPREFIX directory and installed it there and tried first without directx and with it. It is gold on the appdb so I'm a bit surprised. OS is Ubuntu 8.10 and I have tried with wine 1.1.15, 1.1.14 and 1.01. Each time it dumps the memory. Thanks for any help.
